School called today and asked for details of ds condition, as well as when he developed HFMD. I asked how many confirm cases so far but they were pretty evasive and just told me "not sure yet as we are still calling". From what I learnt, they are engaging an outside party to sanitize (not sure if it’s just ds class or whole school though, since ds class has a third of the boys down). Since MSHS is not a child care, I guess the rule of "16 cases" does not apply. Instead, it has to be an attack rate greater than 23 per cent and a transmission period of more than 24 days. Imagine that will be about 290 students before mandatory closure will be enforced!

My DS came down with the fever and cough etc. I am treating him as a HFMD suspect case coz the ulcers come 2 days after the onset of fever. I have a toddler at home so I have isolated them in different houses (toddler and I will stay with my parents for 2 days just to make sure). Call me kiasu...

Wow 11 cases... that's almost a third of the class. This is terrible, worse than childcare.
Cherrygal you did the right thing, not kiasu at all. I am in the same predicament. I isolated my toddler fm ds1 when he came back on mon telling me many boys fm his class are on mc n some had HFMD. Tue My ds had fever, and today multiple ulcers appeared in the mouth. I also noticed a few spots on his fingers. It's confirm HFMD. I am glad I separated my boys because my ds2 got it last yr n was hospitalized for a week. It's exceptionally tough on both the young one n us parents. One ds got it it's bad enough already.

PM you liao, bigfoot. But for all we know, we may be talking of different classes altogether. Relax, folks. Depending on the strain, it could be quite mild esp. for older kids. My ds2 got it last year at 3yrs+ he recovered pretty well, although ds1 (P1 at the time) slept in a different room, we are all in the same house and also ended up playing together sometimes. It was the school holidays then so ds1 was at home, his only complaint was sore throat not sure caught it or not. U/stand the younger the child is, the more serious.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I am more concern about my younger son who is 4 years old. My DS1 had it before when he was younger. It's always good to prevent it from happening if we can help it. 🙂

My sentiments exactly Bigfoot. Prevention is better than cure. Sad to say this situation could hv been aggravated because many don't know what's happening. The number of kids that got infected climbed steadily within these few days, am sure there will be more coming up. God bless all kids affected and hope the boys recover soon.

Seems like the HDMD situation in my ds class is getting from bad to worse! As of today, 11 boys are on mc with 2 additional cases at the end of school day. The boys are not allowed to canteen during recess, the teachers will buy food and bring it up them. Feels that the school should be updating us with first hand information about the updates rather than we parents share info to find our what’s going on, and if need be get the class boys to stay away for this week at least. From 5 absentees (on mon) to 11 absentees today and probably more tomorrow, the teachers will probably not be able to execute their curriculum effectively too.

The 听写list can be found under the 'Home' link, in the left hand panel, there's a 'My Assignment'. Click on that and u should be able to locate the list.

I checked, both \"My Assignment\" under parents' and students' log in and both came back no assignment.

BTW, I got the school letter today ifming the HFMD case, letter says 3 but ds said actually 6 got it.

Me too, got the letter today. It's confirmed that there are 6 cases, not 3 as stated. Hopefully the HFMD don't spread further. Guess our ds are in the same class.

Hi, like to know if any of your boys or their classmates are down with HFMD? Especially this week?

My boy mentioned that 5 of his P2 classmates were down with HFMD when they had their maths test. I think it was before the school hols.

Oh is it? Before the hols? Because 6 boys from my ds P2 class are down with HFMD this wk, chances are they got it last week!

Yes it was a pathetic looking round cream biscuit in a transparent plastic bag! My boy brought it back home. Mineral water for both recess and lunch. Can more efforts even be put into it? Imagine mineral water + cream biscuit + hotdog bun, how "interesting". At least a juice or small packet of Milo can help balance up the meal when no fruits are provided right? Thought the excuse given by the caterer is just rubbish! Too many last minute orders that’s why they cannot cater to provide the fruits? I can understand if I am one of those who ordered when school starts/last minute, at least for those of us who hv confirmed during the orientation, shouldn’t the food be ordered and prepared for the kids in advanced? Even for last min confirmations, do they need to take a week and situation is still as bad? Can’t imagine what what our kids will be eating for the rest of the year when the 1st week is already this kind of standard.

Is the test for all p1 boys? I did not hear DS mention anything about it or any table arrangements. The form teacher actually updates the blog daily but nothing mentioned as well.

Or maybe you can email to his teacher directly and tell her exactly what happened? You can find the whole list of the staff contacts and their email addresses in the MSHS website. I really don’t blame the boy for retaliating as this is a natural reaction of his self defense! But importantly it should be highlighted and stop or else yr boy will not enjoy going to school, not to talk about learning in school.
