      Hi,

My child is weak in Science MCQ. However, when I test her about basic concepts, she can answer.
Anyone can help? Thanks a lot!
      Hi PlayfulFairy,

Sounds like your child needs to learn how to APPLY the Science concepts to questions; or, maybe she needs to learn some answering strategies like elimination method, assumption method, etc. For starters, can try out https://studysciencesmart.com/get-more-primary-science-mcqs-correct-faster-advanced-elimination-method/.

      Hope it helps her! :xedfingers:

own initiative, to approach his P6 subject class Teacher, asked if he can possibly join in their intensive remedial class, so as to help speed up revision fast in time for PSLE, as well as to clarify any doubts your child has.

Last year, my kid school's Science and Maths Teachers gave remedial lessons for P6 students who need to brush up, and they had benefitted, so much so that on P6 Graduation day itself last year October, saw some student received the \"Most Improvement shown, in individual subject\" award, on award ceremony day. It is very heartening, to see them improve by so much !

Last year, for my kid's class, the Science HOD in her school gave Science remedial lessons, to a small group of students. This small group is not just confined nor limited to her own class, but to the P6 cohort, to whoever had failed Science or border-line risky (dangerous) pass or those scored 60+, during P5 (CA1, SA1, SA2) + during P6 (CA1 + SA1 mid year).

      During these remedial lessons,
if students have any questions related to past years' PSLE Open-ended structured qns or Multiple choice qns, can raise them up to Teacher, tell Tr boldly [bravely] what u don't understand, when Tr asked the whole group, \"Do you have any question to clarify, to ask me ?\" Then, Science Tr will go through these questions [which you have raised] inside the remedial class, for every P6 pupil inside the small group, to learn, to benefit. Not just only you yourself benefit, but the whole remedial group can benefit. In other words, help one another inside the group, to pull up your socks

      Example,

your child can ask, \"Tr, I dont quite understand this PSLE Science OE qn Year 2015, qn # x, part b.
Tr, dont mind, can go through with us, teach us how to answer, please ? Thank you very much, Tr \"

      For Maths,
a few other P6 classes also gave Maths remedial lessons, to certain students.

      For Chinese,
my kid's class lao shi said if anyone of you need help to improve writing zuowen, just take some sample PSLE zuowen exam questions from the PSLE booklet : after finished writing zuowen, pass to her and she will mark, review and provide comments. Laoshi can give comments like, \"In your opening first paragraph kan tu zuowen, don't introduce this memorized paragraph here. It doesn't help, won't give u more marks. Instead, you should or can consider from another angle, ... \" Laoshi will advise, how to improve, in the context of the picture compo, given. Likewise, your child can use this same approach too , to seek help from his own class Chinese lao shi.

The P6 students themselves also felt greatly encouraged!
In the end, they all did well in last year's actual PSLE, because improved! Hence, please get your child to approach his or her class Teacher or subject HOD, don't be shy. If need help, just shout for help, and help will be on the way. But if you keep quiet, no one know that u are struggling. Poor thing

      Tr (abbreviation used) : Teacher

phttp, good sharing to encourage the child to ask n not keep quiet.
PSLE is a tiring battle for both 11/12 yo kid and parents .
I started to feel weary too, all subjects need to buck up, P6 CA seem more difficult than P5 SA2 for my kid. Marks slide down, not enought time to study/revise Or too much to study (for Math), Lang Comprehension standard is a much High Jump compared to P5 period.

I agree with you. We also found the CA to be harder and the grades slide.... perhaps the kids “haven’t warmed up their Engines” it’s after all the beginning of the year only. Sigh.

Any recommendations for science tutoring or how to improve? Thank you ..[/quote]Hi Zeal Mummy, perhaps can consider tapping on online science resources? For example, if your child needs help with scoring better for science open-ended questions, you can get some https://studysciencesmart.com/get-free-pdf-5-sure-fire-ways-to-stop-losing-marks/. Still can make huge improvements if your child uses these remaining 6 months well ! :rahrah:
