Sun_2010:No pampering. Only provide the necessity, such as school pocket money and occasionally outing allowances with her friends. I do just the same as what most mummies here do by giving weekly school pocket money. What I meant is that I am just like her \" ATM card\", no need for another.Vinarc:Haha, I am my dotter's ATM card, so she doesnt need the physical card.

:slapshead: daddies! Stop pampering your princesses .
DH too does that, always topping up cash in DD's wallet. :frustrated: How to teach some \"money awareness\" like that?

RE: Want to be Stay at home mom?
You can try to provide Before and After school care service at your home for 1-2 kids. Any primary schools very near your house, where you can pick and send the kids to school? This is a good selling point for your Service.
Or look for some part time jobs which allows to work from home. There are quite some adverts in the papers. -

RE: COE trends
With the expanding of quota yet we see the COE not falling. In actual fact, the COE for Cat B and Open Cat are at their highest in recent months. We shall see after July, after the mad rush. The price should ease after the new categorisation has taken effect for CEVS. But on the other hand, there are also many cars hitting 8-10 years, impatient buyers waiting at the side.

RE: Sim Lim Square Scam/Con ppl shop
Yes, I do heard that not all shops in SL are that bad but if u want to buy stuffs from SL, u will need to do some homework before heading there. Such as which are the shops to avoid, if the price quoted includes GST, etc. If u squeeze them for lower price, make sure they dont swap some accessories or exclude them in the package. Anyway, I try not to get from there if there are stocks elsewhere.

RE: OMG! girl murdered by maid...
It is scary to read about news of maids murdered employers or employersβ kids. Employers need to be more conscious and vigilant of the mental health of their maids. It was reported that the Indonesian maid had shown sign of distress as early as 1 year ago.
My deepest condolences to the family. -
RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
Dreamgear:
Move GEP into guangyang, central, first toa payoh... Immediate rise up the ranks...
Haha nice idea to open up more Ai Tong branches or other popular schools' branches to ease the squeeze of P1 registration. I agree that once a new school is termed GEP, immediately, the popularity of that school will shoot up and it will become a hot school like the others. Anyway, the govt has alot to be done in order to convince parents that all schools are good schools.
No, not so many Ai Tong.phtthp:
Ok lor. Open up Ai Tong 2, Ai Tong 3, Ai Tong 4 and Ai Tong 5 in say... Chua Chu Kang, Seng Kang, Tampines and Woodlands.
Then transfer those existing students in Ai Tong who live nearer to one of the Ai Tong branches to the respective branch school, and vice versa. They are now all Ai Tong, so no reason to complain, right? Lagi no reason to travel far far to school. Just go to the Ai Tong branch nearest home.
CHIJ St Nicholas? No need to open up new branches. Already got a lot of CHIJ schools. Just do the student shuffling can already.
Repeat the process for, say 10 of the other most popular schools.
All the other primary schools will now become a branch of these 12 schools. Then we just shuffle the students all around until they are at the branches nearest their home.
Finally, ex-students will get to enjoy P2A priority to any branch within the umbrella group (including the main school). Then everybody will be happy because everybody will get priority admission. Even no priority also never mind. Sure can get into one of the branches even at Phase 3 since every school is a branch of one of the 12. :faint:
in each neighbourhood -
identify the number of schools that have poor enrolment, help them.
so, Bishan got 4 schools (Ai Tong, Catholic High, Kuo Chuan, Guangyang)
only Guangyang has low enrolment. So only need to clone Yang guang (new name for Guangyang), into Ai Tong (II). No more Ai Tong cloing, after Yang guang.
let's move onto another neighbourhood.
say, Novena
Novena got 4 schools (ACS Barker, SCGS, SJI and Balestier Hill)
only Balestier Hill has poor enrolment rate, so need help.
MOE to decide - now, clone Balestier Hill into which school ?
since Balestier Hill originally co-ed, and none of the other 3 in Novena is co-ed, maybe clone after one of the co-ed schools in Bukit Timah.
This way, can bring up the standard of Balestier Hill faster.
let's move onto another neighbourhood.
say, Central
Central got 4 schools (ACS Junior, River Valley, St Marg and Stamford)
only Stamford primary has poor enrolment rate, so need help.
MOE will decide - now, clone Stamford into which school ?
since Stamford originally co-ed, maybe clone after River Valley.
This way, can bring up the standard of Stamford, faster.
let's move onto another neighbourhood.
say, Toa Payoh
First Toa Payoh primary has poor enrolment rate, so need help.
MOE will decide - now, clone First Toa Payoh into which school ?
clone after Pei Chun, or Maris Stella ?
This way, can bring up the standard of First Toa Payoh, faster. -
RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
phtthp:
many parents go for the name
Agree with you that many parents go for the name of the school, especially so when the school is a GEP school. Parents' perception is such that GEP schools should be good schools as most think that there would be better resources and better teachers in such schools. But is it true for all classes? -
RE: Club Super Daddies
JohnYeo:
Yes, you have said it. It is about quality time spent that matters. Thanks for your sharing.
It's possible...what we normally tell our parents is about the quality time spent and it's about consistency - do it and do it regularly and stay connected with the child.
For example, parents can start off using only 5 minutes daily by tucking children into bed. This works because there is more to it than the tucking part.
Parents always end up talking and chit chatting with their kids finding out what their kids did that day. And again, we advised our parents to NOT talk about school work or if they have finished their homework. Talk about something else. You can start by asking \"What interesting thing happened to you today?\"
Normally, parents get silence or one word answer such as \"Ok.\"
This is actually a test by the kid to see if the parents are genuine in wanting to listen to them.
The next step can be the parents take the first step and share something interesting that happened to the parents that day.
It's just 5 minutes a day and this works...because many parents have feedback to me that their kids started to talk to them...and the duration gets longer each time.
If the parent says they can't even take out 5 minutes a day to talk to their kids, then I will leave it up to the parents to think it over. We all have choices.
