usually if the question ask:\" how many more/less?\" it it definitely a minus question because it is asking for the difference.

eg. 5 is __ more than 2
so the question is read as 5 is how many more than 2

7 is ___ less than 9

so the question is read as 7 is how many less than 9

for the following questions:

5 is 2 less than__
so usually i would read as 5 is less, so i need a bigger answer, so i need to add

2 less than 7 is__
so usually i will focus reading on less than 7, so i need a smaller answer, i need to minus

Just Education at bishan is a pretty new outlet whereas the hougang branch is there for a number of years. i would suggest you try out the new centre cos the class size should be smaller for new centres since they have just started.

my child is studying at just education located at jurong east and i would say the worksheets are good. quite systematic with all the filings and markings. but i would suggest that you would bring your child to go down to have a look at the centre. i did that to mine and he made his own decision whether to enrol a not. most impt is that the kids are comfortable

My P1 was with MPM for a yr since K2 and according to his MPM Marine parade he is doin well.his worksheets are quite few mistakes too. Now 3 mths into P1,his sch teacher told me he is weak in maths.i was surprised as he did well in MPM.

I have since qithdrawn himbfrom MPM but cant seem to find a suitable one in marine parade area.

I had enquired on JEI before but im afraid he will face the same problem again as it is self learning. No lecture style.

Do uou think mind stretcher is good?

I attended the seminar conducted by Just Education last week and learnt quite a few useful tips to share.

Before parents go on to buy piles of assessment books for the children, you got to really observe/assess the needs/level of the children first. If the children are not scoring well, is it due to the weak concept/misconception on the topics or is it due to the lack of answering techniques? Not advisable to push the children to do all the challenging questions drilling on the answering techniques if foundation/conceptual framework is lacking. This will further demoralize them with the incapability to comprehend the questions.

They have quite a number of assessment books titles selling in popular.

Usually 2 or more model bars are drawn if the questions involved comparison such as more than or less than for pri 1/2 maths questions.

If it's a one step question, it will usually include info for more than or less than or question ask for how many more/less, you will need a 2 model bars.
If it's one step question and asking for altogether, it's one bar.

If it's a two -step questions, usually it's 2 bars.because they will usually provide info for one subject then find the second one using addition or subtraction. then finally ask for altogether.

My son is in P2 this year. Until now, he still has difficulty figuring out when to use a single model and when to use a double model. Each time I ask him for rationale, I get a different explanation. This makes me just as confused as he is. I went to http://www.mathplayground.com/ but found that all the models there are double models. Is there any site that a P2 child go have hands-on like mathsplayground that can stengthen his and my understanding on situations for single and situations for double models? Or could anyone please advise me on the rule so I can be less blur and would be able to better help my son?

hi there! my child is studying at just education. taking the IP courses. so far so good. my sister’s child is there taking their pri tuition. my friend told me that they are having this free seminar abt PSLE and IP talk at their new bishan branch. heard quite informative. thinking to call them up. i guess you can call up and find out more if keen. i already recommended similar talks by just to a few friends. feeback quite positive.

i totally agree with what you think. removing the exams from lower primary does not relieve much of the stress that they are going through. it gives them a shorter period to adjust to the exams systems.

the funny thing is whatever you learn in primary school is not going to be relevant in sec. for eg, you do not need to draw models in sec and yet you are discouraged to use algebra in pri level.

I think it is due to the format of the exams.

For languages, comprehension is much more difficult and compo is now 40marks. In the past, the good ones can score 18-19 for compo compared to the average 13marks - the difference is only about 5 marks. Now, the average probably scores only closed to 30 compared to the better ones who can score about 38 - the gap is much wider, not forgetting the oral component which is also quite a big part of the total.

For Science, they are tested on more concepts and application stuff. It is very diversified. The Maths paper is also much longer with the introduction of calculators.

That's why I do not agree with the idea of removing exams for lower primary levels..... it is simply delaying the \"pain\"....
