Congrats. Would you mind to share the name of the school?
Hi parents
My daughter's appeal is successful! The school required us to get a transfer form to release her from her posted school. May I ask if I go directly to her posted school to request for the transfer form? Or is there somewhere I can download the form? Possible to advise the process?
Sorry if this has been addressed earlier. I din manage to get a search result.
Many thanks! -

I completely agree.
I can see the point of view that schools have the ultimate right to set selection criteria which does not necessarily be opened crystal clear to public. Yes, even with all the happenings, I do believe that the selection is for the greater good. For school culture or some strategic move.
Reading of all the shortlisted/not shortlisted cases, I hope the school(s) can consider the children perspective and not diluting it with other motives. If DSA is for talent, and yet the selection consider GEP/non GEP, primary school, etc, isn’t it defeating the purpose for both applicants and school?
For characters 100% I agree have to be considered. But other factors... yes if two candidates have similar profile. But looking at the whole package at first may again defeat the purpose. It takes away one’s passion because that limited 24hours a day has to be sliced over to get into the dream school.
If a child has worked very hard, be it with tuition help or otherwise, and achieves an impressive result. In the end didn’t get even a chance for an interview, and see his/her friends with less achievements get it, what’s his/her view of meritocracy? Wrong signal, no?
Please consider that kids network now is sooo wide. With mobile phone, Internet forum, and tuitions, they know what’s happening. Sometimes faster and more (both correct and wrong info) than parents. -
RE: DSA 2020 - NUSH
It is just my opinion but is that geppers supposed to be the gifted ones so of course when all based on achievements, they will win over MS. They are all gone through the same selection test in P3. From what I see if a kid is not truly gifted it will be a lot of works just for the gep curriculum let alone winning anything.

If this is the case, make me really wonder about the word \"transparent\". If there is tests like usual then it can be understood but for this year, is that a gold medal in a recognised MO should be considered as having more talent than no medal at all. It appears that GEP is having different set of criteria is not fair to twelve years old. The notion that GEP can get in via psle is far fetched. Many boys who are good in maths and science are not so good in languages at this age.
I know a boy without any math medals ( not even a bronze) get shortlisted for R. However I don’t know his other stellar factors.zac's mum\" post_id=\"1987830\" time=\"1595807197\" user_id=\"53606:[quote=\"zac's mum\" post_id=1987830 time=1595807197 user_id=53606]Medicine fac may be willing to consider a couple of Bs if there are other stellar factors in the applicant’s resume...but never any Cs I presume?
So top schools like R may be willing to consider Olympiad Silver with other stellar factors, but never any Bronze? Is that the trend?

Imo for MO regardless of how much training or grilling, to be good the raw talent must be there first.
For every kid who seems too outstanding to not be selected for interview Or not given WL or CO, there are other kids who somehow seem like deserving but got a CO in the end. Just speaking from my limited experience with 2 kids who went through DSA last year.
For GEP, there were indeed quite a number of boys who were not successful with a DSA RI. Some got ACS but chose to give up. In the end, most still end up with RI, so no loss to RI at all.
Not sure about RI, HCI, but for RGS and nygh, all have the chance to sit for the selection test in year 1 to be in the maths olympaid training. It’s only for science DSA which have a bit of advantage in that the few girls are suppose to have a mentor who Will guide them to tAke part in some science competitions. However due to the situation this year, most of such mentor sessions/trainings were cancelled. Anyway come year 2, they are still subjected to the same eligibility and tests to determine if they can take advanced science modules in year 3.
There are too many Maths olympaid competitions around, many resources and many training centre for MO. There are parents and kids who are determined enough to put in hours and hours of grit and grilling to be placed TOP 10. Difficult to tell what is real talent. But those who are TOP have definitely put in massive amount of hard work regardless if they have raw talent or not.
Conversely, science DSA is pretty much under the limelight. Only 2 science Olympaid is P5, and hardly any training centres since market and demand is not high given the limited no of competitions. Maybe that’s where raw talent can be more easily discovered...? But maybe not for Long, because seems like those centres which in the past focus on MO are beginning to extend to SO training as well. -

If it is like this I think RI is doing itself a disserservice in the long run.
Actually I feel GEPer is “discriminated” this year by RI.
My DS is HIgh distinction for RIPMWC round 1, NMOS gold + team award. Mathlypics gold. Represent his school for SMOPS in P5 with bronze. His NMOS P4 got silver. 97% for his P5 math and other subjects similar with Ruhemet’s DS. He also won silver in international youth bilingual speech competition. And he has ABRSM grade 8 + the soloist in his school choir team. He also actively participate community work ( after listing, I feel he is not that bad actually, haha) He did not get shortlisted either...
However, I know some kids with only NMOS silver got shortlisted and some even without any medal got the chance too...
If DSA is to select based on talents, I don’t see the point why the kids don’t stand a chance to even get an interview. So I called RI, the reply is very polite and official as you can expect. Honestly, I am quite disappointed with such a reputed school.
Anyway, DSA is an experience, definitely not all. -

You see for the new psle scoring system 91 or 100% are just the same so I think 98% is not what they look at unfortunetaly.
98% is already very high score unless we are saying those applied and selected by RI consistently scored 99% or 100% in Math?Cocovan\" post_id=\"1987699\" time=\"1595683838\" user_id=\"185581:
Imo, 一山还有一山高,maybe it really got alot of very outstanding gep kids applied under this domain..no point let you have a chance to interview but in the end didnt get the co..
Just my personal opinion...
I am sure many parents want to know how come not shortlisted for interview? It is somewhat ridiculous. -

Is your DS got shortlisted for interview? Imo Gep maths are much harder than mainstream and looking at it, most of MO medals come from Gep anyway. I do think they have different criteria for gep and mainstream.
RI may only take 20-30 through math domain, NMOS silver means about 60-400 in the competition. (DS got silver in P4 but also silver in P5. We feel a bit disappointing. But lucky after that DS improves his accuracy in school exam.) RI also has to take mainstream students. I do not see there is a big point to interview many.
Anyway, parents like RI but kids have their own ideas and make their own choices.
DS also math 98 last year overall. CT2 full mark. Science 92-94, but Low 80s for languages. No tuition but I will explain concepts. (I think he did not do well in math competition is because I sent him out for MO and too lazy to coach him. He might not pay attention in that class. ) Two CCA both school team, one as vice chairman. He said he is the best in the other CCA. Haha. But no award for competition so no proof. However his P4 result was not good. Therefore beside Edusave, he also got that good progress award. he was the class monitor in P4 for a semester. Wah, after listing, I felt his profile looks quite ok.
However, IMO, for GEP math, those score 93 and above are very close in ability. Only MO can differentiate them a bit. DS never needs my help in school math.
I think this year they really only interview those with at least NMOS gold for math as no test is conducted. Remote chance as the quota is there. -

I am sure that they will come up with generic answer. I see it as no point to probe further and rather focus on upcoming exams. Moreover, many more gep kids win many gold medals or even ranked high in competitions than my DS.
It is rather surprising that someone in GEP and consistently scoring 98% in Maths will not get into RI via DSA for academic domain for Maths as one of the parent said earlier. Then on holistic front they play piano. Should the parent not ask why, since it is claimed the process is transparent it is ok to check why and how they ranked various applicants.
The process should not be so opaque correct when RI website states it is transparent in in its selection. You would at the minimum expect an interview.
