RE: All About English Creative Writing
Hey TAS,
I stay in Indonesia, I do come back regularly to visit my parents and will
bring my child here to study eventually. But right now, there is a lack of
good educational material in Indonesia so I always try to buy back lots when I am here. But iamyoung's suggestion is a good one. It especially makes it convenient for parents like me based overseas to get your books. I have some friends here who also follow KSP and your twitter. Could you put your book online for sale? It would really help us. -

Hey, I have the same experience, I just moved here from the States and find that the schools here do not focus much on writing, I wonder why that is so. Writing is so important as communication is something that you need for life and if you can't write, it is hard to communicate with people especially in the corporate world.Hi TAS,
Some schools do not provide a lot of composition for the students and we
cannot really look at their work and then when it comes to the exam, we cannot see their paper. How do we know if their composition is on the right track? My sister's kids are P4 and P5 and both face this. You mentioned we can work with teachers but their teachers do not do much compositions and they just say they are doing quite well. What is 'quite well'? We are quite frustrated as it seems that composition is the most neglected part of the teaching in school. Can you provide some insight to how to help them, some guidelines to know the std of their writing. They go for tuition but at the tuition, the emphasis is also not much on writing.
Will also really really appreciate if you could do a grammar wkshop before the SA2.
I also agree about the grammar workshop, we used to learn it incidentally and so lack the skills to teach it in a more 'obvious' way. TAS, if you could help us out here, that would be

Hi jon00,Vonneee86,
Jurong West branch
vonneee86:
Hi all,
Looks like the opinions are quite different, is Zoophonics a franchise? Do you know which branches are better?
jon00, which branch does your child go to?
mrswongtuition, the branch that your child goes to seems bad, is it the management or the teachers?
Do you all know who started this? Is it very established?
Thanks!
Thanks for the info, might try out the branch you go to since you feel it is good. -

RE: Zoophonics
jon00:
Hi jon00,My 2 kids have been with zoophonics since they were 2.5YO. Currently, my gal is in K2, going to P1 next year
, and my son is in N2. He will be continuing to K1 and K2.
Zoophonics, like all Kindies have structured and theme based syllabus. In the daily programmes, time are allocated between english, maths, science and chinese. The kids are also encouraged to attend the school holiday programmes which focus on specific theme (good general knowledge, IMHO).
One of the key area is phonics, so in N1 and N2, the school set the foundation on phonics, sound of letters and word blending. Proper writing and writing techniques are also emphasize during these 2 years. Comparing to other phonics school, you may find that the pace is relatively slower but I can see the vast improvement in my kids attempting to blend and read a word at later stage with the strong foundation build into them. Again, in my opinion, I believe in building strong fundamentals and not rushing through it since learning is a continuous process.
In K1 and K2, the kids would have acquire the ability to read. These 2 years will also see the syllabus tailored to the preparation of P1. Spelling, english language (i.e verbs, nouns...etc), mathamatics concept, chinese hanyu pinyin, journal writing, short comprehension and composition, science concept are all part of the learning.
One of the thing I like about zoophonics is the class size. It is between 10-12 kids in a class, and the teacher has pretty balance focus on each of the kids. My gal's class even has a \"mentoring system\" where the better kid guide the weaker kid. The class bonds very well.
This is a brief snapshot of my review for Zoophonics. Hope it helps.
Thanks a lot..you said it was a kindy..I thought it was an enrichment centre, is it possible to join their phonics programme but not the kindy?
