Hi, i am new to Shichida. Intend to send my 18mo to SM Toa Payoh.

For materials used in the class, how much do I have to pay per term?
As for home practice, where can I source for the cheaper materials if I dont want to DIY?

    • RE: All About Autism

Although it may seem that he does have some social awareness difficulty, it is really not up to us to diagnose whether he has autism (or not) and the severity. It would be best to attain a psychiatrist’s report and then decide what’s best for him.

The report will be important to help your child’s development stakeholders (OTs, STs, school teachers, parents, etc) to know where to start off to help him. Keep in mind that the stakeholders should come together for discussions to update your child’s progress around once every 3 months, so that you can have the latest IEP (Individualised Education Program) which targets on his issues which need to be improved on. Therefore, look for schools or platforms which caters for the stakeholders to come in contact with each other easily.

Nevertheless, enjoy your child’s positive points and less worry and tense about his shortfalls, so that he can also grow confidently under your care! One day, you may even realise his talent and help him work towards it!

he is already on OT now but I feel that the teachers are not patient enough on him… sigh… I am looking for schools in Yishun, sembawang, yck, admiralty…

any good schools who may support them?
I call Presbyterian, car corner who supports ICCP but they are all full…
he is basically not really listening to instructions when given, he will wander off in classroom to find things that interest him.
pull the toys on the floor and cheekily smile at the teacher when he does that (I take it as mischievous)
what do you also do when your kids gets over-obsessed with looking at fans /moving lights? I am trying to find one that is fully conditioned so that he doesn’t gets distracted by the fans…

      Hi Appleworm,

I would like to understand your son a little more.
      * Does he respond well in terms of eye contact with people when communicating?
      * How is his command of language by his given age (note that boys may be little slower in language development)?
      * Does he mumble or sings to himself?

    • RE: All About Right Brain Training

      Dear all,

I am new to this forum and I happened to come across this hot topic. Does right brain training really help to stimulate our children’s brain? If so, in what way? Can anyone enlighten me?

      Thanks.

      Hi Gerrard,

Right brain is more of creativity, emotion, high speed processing, artistic and visual skills. Left brain, on the other hand, is logical, mathematical, language, and critical thinking. So as you can see, the differences between the two sides of the brain works differently. Now you know, our Singapore school syllabus are more towards left brain driven.

It is more useful if both sides of the brain can work together simultaneously so that we can unleash the full learning potential. For example, problem solving requires logical thinking plus creativity (thinking out of the box).

This is why so many parents are fanatic about right brain training now, so as to hope that their children can quickly cultivate interest in learning using unstructured and fun way.

However, if you are looking into a Right Brain school, the most important thing is that the school should be able to provide APPLICATION methods to the children’s schoolwork, or other structured activities which they feels bored about.

Remember, skills learnt without knowing how to apply = zero.

      Regards
