Does anyone know how the Primary 1 EL First Combined Mark (on the report book) is calculated? What components are taken into account? I am quite surprised by my child's EL mark. My child did not do too badly in his written tests and so it seems that the Reading/S&T assessments have pulled down my child's mark considerably ~ according to the rubrics, my child scored \"Good\" (2nd column).

The weightage (in %) for the rubrics assessments to the term's percentage is not made known unlike last year, so it's not possible for us to work out unless teacher revealed the marks of individual components to parents and how they \"convert\" rubrics to marks. Not to mention those with rubrics, parents are not even told of kids performance in listening, let alone letting us know the weightage and hence marks. In most cases, it's usually the rubrics that pulled the marks southwards.

Thanks timtim for the information. I hope that there is some sort of standardisation done across the classes since the assignment of marks for S&T/Reading can really be subjective.

Regarding the School's dental clinic, I am not too sure how it works? A couple of months ago (can't remember the exact date) they hv conducted the first check-up on my girl's teeth. They concluded cavities in her 4 teeth and required filling in her next round check-up. Till now, they havent \"summon\" her for further treatment. Please advise whether my girl needs to go down and make appointment with the clinic or eventually they will ask for her.

At the start of the year, I took my child to see the school dental clinic as he complained of a toothache. I did not make any appointment and just walked in. After a check up, the dental staff said there was a tooth cavity and that my child needed a root canal procedure which could not be done on the spot as there were already 2 students waiting to see her. The staff cleaned the cavity and told me that she would \"summon\" my child again. However, the pain did not subside the next few days and I was so worried that I immediately took my child to see a private dentist who said that the decay was very serious and needed an immediate root canal treatment. True enough, when the tooth was extracted, I could see that half of it was decayed. The dentist discovered 2 more serious cavities and I decided to let my child have the treatment at the private dental clinic as I did not want to wait. Since you mentioned that your gal has 4 cavities for a few months, it is best that you book an appointment with the school clinic to get them filled before the condition worsens. It may not be a good idea to wait to be \"summoned\" as the school dental staff has to see so many students and thus you most likely won't know when it will be your child's turn. Otherwise, you may want to see a private dentist like me. No doubt, I had to spend a bomb on the treatments but I am glad that my child's problems are fixed ASAP. Just my humble opinion ~ It's your call.

My child also took the test but the paper is not returned yet. I feel that it is still too challenging for the P1s to be tested on composition writing so fast - just my opinion.

My boy is in P1 this year. So far, he has not been given much homework except for 2 pages in the Stellar Handwriting Book plus Art. Just wondering whether it is the same for other P1 classes?
