Sieg:I did hesitate in asking these questions in this thread but I thought the process will also affect the final A level results. And then, people may start drawing wrong conclusion that certain school add more value than another one the COP is similar (or whatever) but the result is different. What I want to draw attention to is that the process behind the scene can also affect result. Dual track schools do have more flexibility in transfering out weaker Ip students to O level track and vice versa. Thus maintaining a higher academic standard for their IP cohort. For VS, dsa domains comprise of 3 types, i.e. sports, academic and academic cum sports. Dsa sports will be placed in o level track. The rest in IP. I don't have an answer for your question on 23x in dsa ip sport but I do know that the selection critieria for ip/ip sports is rather strict as the students need to go through GAT and have very good upper pri sch academic records to be selected for interview.WeiHan:
Do you happen to know the DSA percentage for Cedar Girls and Victoria?
For both of these schools, if a student DSA thru sport domain for example, are they placed in the IP or O level track? Does the students that DSA indicate in advance of PSLE result which track (IP or O level) they are DSAing into? What happened if a student DSA into the IP track thru sport domain but PSLE result turn out to be 23X? Does the sschool still place the student in IP track or they will advise the student to be admitted to its O level instead.
Note that the above issue does not arise in full IP school. All DSAed students, no matter what their academic strength will be in IP. I am curious about the practice in dual track schools.
Students in dsa sports, i.e. for o level track, takes up approx 15% (about 27 students) of the o level intake.
I am not sure about dsa ip/ip sports % but its total should be about the same at 15% (also about 27)of its ip intake.
:offtopic: Pls goto VS forum if you wish to discuss further...

Do you happen to know the DSA percentage for Cedar Girls and Victoria?Just a couple of thoughts:
Did not read all of the posts but scanned through a few.
Totally agree that ranking is not important and it's whether the college is suitable for your DC in terms of curricula, culture and even distance (among others) is what counts.
Some have expressed surprise ( and delight) over VJC's performance and I just thought I'd quickly weigh in on this.
The beauty about Cedar and VS are that they do not take in any affliated students. Plus their DSA intake, if I am not wrong, is pretty minimal compared to RI, RGS and HCI. Hence those who get into these 2 sec schools' IP programme really all have pretty good PSLE T-scores which reflect the true IP COP of these schools. Hence it is not surprising that they continue to do well all the way to JC and A levels.
For those who make it to VJC via O level track, only VS boys have affliation to VJC if I am not wrong....and the affiliated are not a big number ...only about 150... and some actually do not go to VJC, they do well enough to go to RI or DSA to other JCs (VS is very strong in sports). So again VJC's O level COP may be pretty much a good reflection of true COP.
The Victoria Cedar Alliance group of schools have much to celebrate

RE: 2015 A Level Results
I have read NYJC students and ex-students publicising for the school in twitter and other internet media. One thing I am very sure is that these students really love their school. Some of the few reasons I read them purporting
1. Teachers are so dedicated that they sit on the same spot for consultation from morning to evening minus the time for a short lunch break, I suppose is during A level period.
2. They have a flexible time table…I don’t quite understand. Something like alternate week A and week B…The complex stuff doesn’t matter. The end result is that they only need to attend at most 1-2 7:30 am lesson in two weeks. Their lesson may start around 8 or even 8:30 am for other days…So they can rest more most of the days.
3. Most students are very friendly.
4. The school management are very caring. The students suggested and immediately more study benches were added all around the school and students won’t need to fight for a space at the library.
5. School management is so caring and efficient that students can book classroom during public holidays and weekends to study.
6. The principal buy them ice-cream.
7. The school is very lax with their uniform. They are allowed to wear 4 days of school t-shirt.
8. The school trusts their self-grooming. They are allowed to dye their hair as long as it is not too obvious.
I guess making students happy and they will talk good about their school and news will spread among students. -

ParkYuni:
It is very hard to say. All these batches were enrolled into sec 1 when RV was still at its holding site at Malan road (ex SAJC campus). Not sure if the quality of student intake is better or worse after it shifted to its present Boon Lay site. We will have to wait for future results to tell. As for whether ex-P's scandal will affect student intake quality is also hard to tell as these students are only in sec 1 to 3 and are still some years from taking a level.
It's a pity RVHS is also losing its shine. Was it due to the ex-P's scandal? And not forgetting that it is located in a rather ulu area.WeiHan:
4. COP for this batch of RV graduates was 251. Having said that, this is still not the best result RV is capable of putting in. The best result they can put in so far looks like this

UBKmom:
But it is believed that O level batch with COP 5-6 can do better in A level than IP students with psle t-score >25X. RI and HCI also enjoy strong J1 intake. VJC still enjoys full good quality O level intake. In other words, good O level result correlates more with a good a level results than a good psle t score with a level results.Actually, there is nothing great about RI/HCI being at the top of the table since they took in the best both in PSLE and O level but what is commendable is the performance of VJC. I believe their 2015 A level cohort is made up of mainly O level student but able to come so close to RI/HCI. If I am not wrong, the first batch of VS/cedar IP student is currently at J1 and it will be interesting how VJC will challenge RI/HCI in 2017 A level.
NJC seem to be loosing their shine lately. -

You are right. You can't add up the number of 3H2 distinctions with that of 4, 5,6, 7 distinctions. some of the students with 3 H2 distinctions are included in the 5,6, 7 distinctions statistics.
Great, it's even more confusing now.WeiHan:
Just hope to add a few points of observation.
1. I look at TJC stats, the 3 H2 distinctions number should not be confused with the 4 distinctions number. 4 distinctions does not mean that they are all H2 subjects.
So the stats may or may not be a cumulative one.
e.g., for the 4 distinctions category, it may include 4H2 distinctions/ 3 H2 distinctions + 1H1 distinctions/ 2H2 distinctions + 2H1 distinctions / 1H2 distinctions + 3 H1 distinctions
For the 5 dist category, it may include 4H2 dist + 1H1 dist etc...
There is no stats for the % of students with at least 3H2 distinctions.
So we can only base on its UAP for interpretation of its performance. -

2. This batch of NYJC result is for the batch with COP 7 or 8. We can expect its A level results to improve further down the road as its COP has drop to 6 this year.
3. I observed that for schools with small cohort size like DHS and RV, the results can fluctuate quite a bit from year to year. I thought it is quite easy to understand, in statistics, small sample size is more prone to larger standard deviation.
4. COP for this batch of RV graduates was 251. Having said that, this is still not the best result RV is capable of putting in. The best result they can put in so far looks like this

RE: Police investigating 'unnatural death' of 14-year-old boy
Another point about cctv record that Shamugan mentioned. These days we have cctv everywhere as we have a government that believes citizens should be watched. Then, do you wonder why isn’t there a need also to watch the police or any authorities in question. You may have realised that there isn’t any cctv records of the police interrogation process. We just need to accept minister’s words at face that the interrogation is not intimidating and that they have really offered the boy food and drink…You just have to believe their words but no proof needed.

Not just minor, adults should have these rights.
I seldom agree with you on issues, but this I agree wholeheartedly wrt to a minor :goodpost:WeiHan:
The wider issue at hand is the legal right that has been trampled over. Consider these especially the one in boldface
- … the police may prevent him from consulting a lawyer for as long as they deem necessary or “reasonable”.
- Even after the suspect has engaged legal counsel, the police is still not required to let counsel be present during subsequent interviews. This means that he can be questioned without his lawyer.
- Any incriminating statements that he gives can then be used to convict him, regardless of whether or not the statements were obtained unfairly.
- In fact, even if he chooses to remain silent on the grounds that he is waiting for his lawyer, his silence can be used against him. The judge may make what is called an adverse inference from his silence.
- In addition, the suspect has no right to contact third parties to discover and ask about into his right to counsel, and he has no right to contact family and friends to ask about the legal consequences of his arrest.
