I thought we know the median UAS for both JCs?
What is the cohort size of NYJC?phtthp\" post_id=\"1899774\" time=\"1551095998\" user_id=\"35251:
Nanyang Junior College ony take in JAE students, 2017 JC1 students, for 2018 A-level.
In contrast, if we were to flashback to PSLE 2012 batch, those P6 students who entered National Junior College, their IP Cut-off point back then, was around 257 for NJC, and was quite a large pool of IP students. Therefore, it is natural to expect National JC to perform better than Nanyang JC, at 2018 A-level
Correction: NJC IP is a small cohort, not “quite a large pool”. It is only about 190 + students. The majority of NJC JC students are actually from JAE (probably about 2/3 or more).
NYJC P said >40% got 3 H2 As, I would assume it would be anywhere between 40.x% - 43.x% otherwise he might have called it “almost 50%”
NJC said about 1 in 2 got 3 H2 As, using the “new” formula for rounding up, I would presume NJC % of 3 H2 As would be somewhere between 44.x% - 53.x%
, so better than NYJC in this aspect?
So taking all these into considerations without knowing more information, it’s hard to tell who exactly performed better than the other...
NYJC median UAS around 85 or slightly higher.
NJC median UAS is 84.4 as they released. -

yup more than 50% NYJCians scored 85 RP and above, meaning that the median is definitely higher than 85RP.
You are right. median is usually higher than mean based on historical data. NYJC median is probably around 85 since they said 50% of their students attained more than 85 UAS. So, at 50 percentile, it stands right at 85.White Earth\" post_id=\"1899514\" time=\"1550979809\" user_id=\"126472:
I got confused with all the mean(average) and median UAS.
Median UAS is the UAS at the 50th percentile and mean is the average UAS.
Based on historical data, is median UAS usually higher than mean UAS?
So RI mean UAS is 84.5.
NYJC median or mean UAS is 85.X?
Then NJC median UAS is 84.4, so what is its mean UAS?
NJC median UAS is 84.4. Mean should be lower than that, usually 1-3 points lower. these number is quite credible as NYJC cop in recent years is 7 while NJC is 8. So, njc attaining slightly lower result is about right.
NYJC and NJC have the exact same COP for both Science and Arts for year 2017 (2018 A Level Results),
Science: 6
Arts: 7
So, NJC attaining slightly lower results is not \"about right\"[/quote]I got the above cop from a website, probably a discrepancy, that website is showing 2018 data. You are right about the \"not about right\", come to think about it because NJC still has its IP cohort which usually has a rather high COP. -
RE: * River Valley High School (RVHS) - JC
I got the impression the schools received from MOE a projected outcome based on the students intake quality. When the school achieve higher than the projected value that MOE provides, they will know if they have value added. In the old days when MOE published school ranking, there was a parameter called value addedness which MOE will calculate for each school. maybe, they are still calculating but is not released.

RE: GCE A level result 2019 @ 22nd Feb 2019
I am very surprise someone posted NYJC’s results as below
H2 Maths: >70%
H2 Chemistry: >70%
H2 Physics: >70%
H2 Biology: >70%
It is better than RI since RI’s result for these subject is 70%. -
RE: * River Valley High School (RVHS) - JC
Judging from RV and DHS’s results, I suppose if the JAE’s cop isn’t better than 6 for science, 7 for arts, it won’t help to pull up these schools results in the future.

RE: IP Math Tuition
I have a short stint as a maths tutor at a successful tuition centre in the west. From my observation, the only difference with IP is that the topics are taught in different sequence. All the classes are mixed with students from different secondary schools, some IP some not. Yet, the tutors can still cope with it. The way to do it is to teach 2-3 different topics in each session. While students from one school were being taught one topic, the other students not yet at that topic will be given worksheets of the topic that they were at to practise and the tutor will rotate to them. I also offer private 1-1 tutoring at an affordable rate only slightly higher than big group tutoring mentioned above. You may private me for more info if you are keen. However, I am only willing to take students living in Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Batok, Bukit panjang or nearby areas.

RE: IP, IB vs A Levels
emoh:
Thankyou for your info. Sorry if my question is ambiguous.
I think depends on the school, heard some do in grade 11 while others in grade 12White Earth:
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question.
Are the IBs students in grade 11 having chinese exams in two weeks time?
I mean they just finished their exams for other subjects and then they are having a separate chinese exam in early Nov (grade 11)?
