Hi parents, my younger sister seems to be not interested in her studies, because every time she comes back from school, she would read her story book or play online games in the room, oblivious to my mother's advice.
Her attitude changed since Sec 1; I don't know what she's thinking about, or what her friends tell her. She could be addicted to playing online games and chatting with friends about nonsense.
When she's in Primary school I am able to guide her in her studies, although we quarreled sometimes. But now, she doesn't do her homework until really late at night, and I did tell her to finish her work before playing games or reading books but she doesn't listen.
She's in Express stream now, but she would be better off in Normal stream I believe. My sis is not the study and diligent type. And her class has 40 students. Form teacher doesn't have the time to talk to my sis, not in FT time and whatever. It is a substandard school. She actually opted for another school (1st choice), but unexpectedly, this school chose her (5th choice).
The school doesn't have a CCA which she likes. She has been trying out different CCAs thus far. She said the instructor wants her to quit the Brass Band as she learns quite slower than her peers. :skeptical: :siao:

RE: 2017 Sec 1 (For those born in 2004)
About the issue of the WhatsApp and other online messaging groups that the kids are involved in, I really do not know what to say. I mean, the class have a group chat, every student doesn’t want to feel alienated, so they feel compelled to read the chat updates, type whatever nonsense to the conversation, and who knows what they might learn… I can’t control what my sister does on the cell phone, I’m distressed, helpless, blame it on those kids who have so much free time.

RE: Q&A - PSLE Math
Hello I need help for this question:
A survey carried out by a school revealed that 1185 of the pupils walk to school every day. 70% of the remaining pupils go to school by bus while the rest of the pupils go to school by car. Given that 1/5 of the school enrolment goes to school by car, what is the enrolment of the school?

Yeah!!! These math papers are getting tougher. The SA1 exam paper is one such example. I don't know what the teachers are thinking, really, what is their ulterior motive??? When I was studying for 'O' Level, the same situation happened! :stupid: :frustrated:Setting easy papers may lead to overconfidence...but tough papers may not necessarily serve its purpose. Kids get demoralized and unhappy when parents want to revise and drill for PSLE. There is also prelims in August.
They find that no matter how hard they work...how much effort they put in, the papers are difficult. -

The Robotics Club had twice as many pupils as the Science Club. The ratio of the number of girls to the number of boys in the Robotics Club was 4:1. The ratio of the number of girls to the number of boys in the Science Club was 2:3.
(a) Find the ratio of the number of girls in the Robotics Club to the number of girls in the Science Club.
(b) After 38 girls left the Robotics Club to join the Science Club, the ratio of the number of girls to the number of boys in the Science Club became 9:4. How many girls were in the Science Club in the end? -

Hi, thanks for the reply! But is there a easier way to solve this? I don't understand the 5u for boys at first.
Start with boys =5u last year. 5u selected because it's easier to work with a 20% increase.wilburlim:
1760 children took part in a run last year. This year, the number of boys increased by 20% while the number of girls decreased by 20%. As a result, the number of girls became twice as many as the number of boys this year.
(a) How many boys took part in the run last year?
(b) What is the percentage decrease in the number of children who took part in the run this year?
:thankyou:
This year the boys = 1.2 X 5u = 6u , i.e 20% increasse from 5u
This year the girls= 12u , i.e. twice of boys this year.
Girls this year is 80% of girls last year
80% => 12u
100% => 12u/0.8 = 15u <-last year girls
5u + 15u = 1760
20u =1760
u = 88
a) Last year boys = 5u = 5(88) = 440#
b) Total participants for last year = 20u
Total paticipants for this year = 6u+12u = 18u
Reduce by 2u
% reduction = 2u/20u X 100 = 10% ### -

Someone please help me. Thanks!
A lorry left Town A at 8 a.m. and travelled towards Town B at an average speed of 55 km/h. At 11a.m., a car left Town A for Town B, travelling at an average speed of 85 km/h along the same road. Both the lorry and the car travelled at a uniform speed.
(a) At what time did the car pass the lorry?
(b) How far was the lorry from Town A when the car passed the lorry?
