Congrats to all who has received a CO for SST.
My son is in P5 and he is very keen to apply for this school next year. May I ask - with the new DSA portal in place, did you still need to submit a very extensive portfolio? Is SST looking for a personal statement? Thanks in advance.
My son only submitted his certificate for the Math and Science Olympiad participation, he did not win any medal except for the p6 math olympiad (Bronze), but the p6 math olympiad result was only released after the portfolio submission. Other than that, his Math is AL1 consistently through the years, whereas his science hovers between AL 2-3 in p5/p6. His school science teacher in p5/p6 was always on leave/mc, so he have some difficulties catching up on science. The extended HBL due to COVID also didnt help much.
I do think that SST probably place more emphasis on the phase 1 and 2 e-quiz/challenge, especially the phase 2 , where the applicant participate in grp discussion to solve a grp task etc. So it's important that the applicant is confident enough to speak up and also take into consideration other participants' input.
As parents, we didnt prep my son for any DSA, we just seek his opinion if he would like to try for SST DST, since he have interests in Math/Science, solving math prob and he's always asking question about science and strong interests in reading up science magazine. He have no tuitions since pri 1, so it's all his personal effort that he was able to get the SST CO.
