      Hi,

Out of curiosity, during Dsa interview, doesn’t being a gepper make any difference ,child was selected to go for gep but we didn’t let him embark on it.

The most important thing - we lay and support our kids on the best path in their learning journey and be happy learning.

And so of course there will be a handful of parents like me who decided against the Programme. We have to ,on our part, continue to guide them and stimulate them. 🙂 it is not impossible. Do seek the help of the school in that aspect as well,I do know of some schools who are more laid back in competitions-but that will be a pity.

We have decided not to embark on this new journey as well.logistics and there are a lot of uncertainties. As an ex gep teacher for w short while, I must say the work load is definitely much higher.those of u whose kids are in the Programme-be prepared and please give them your fullest support. The kids will benefit from the programme if a number of elements are in placed. Teachers and parental support and of course ,their own character make a difference.

I have heard of stories of parents offering cash to private tutors to do the projects-that defeats the purpose of the programme.

@jedamum To rectify,my child got selected for the programme- just trying to play devil’s advocate now before making decisions. I used to be an ex Gep teacher actually but I left the service a while back,so wondering if there are any changes.

      Crossroads.

anyone whose kid got selected for the programme but deciding not to enrol in it?
I’m thinking to keep it focus on maths and science olympiads competitions on our own rather than embarking on the programme.
in fact, I’m wondering why MOE does not include computer programming into the syllabus, don’t you think?

    • RE: Homeschooling your child?

      Dear all,

I am seriously considering to homeschool my son for his K2… I have been always avidly teaching him at home and he seems to learn more from me than the school. The sole purpose to send him to school is just to socialize with the children but the cost is so high. … and it’s only 3 hours. They really don’t do much except to do a lot of singing-- the academic part, is not enough…

I am considering taking this bold step, but am worried about his emotional well being. What do i tell him if i were to stop school half way? But do take note that even up to k1, he still cries at times when i send him to school because he wants to be with me. I am in quite a struggle now, my heart says to homeschool, but i am afraid that i may not have considered any disadvantages in doing that.

Can anyone advise? ps- I am only considering homeschooling till primary 1.

I have been an ex MOE teacher and thus teaching is my cup of tea.

    • RE: NAFA School of Young Talents - Discussion

      Hi Cat,

Honestly i am tempted at trying NAFA, but i kept asking myself what happened to all my years of piano learning. I apply the same question to my son. I was trained in piano and a lot of my other gfs as well, some even to diploma, but in the end, the certs went to waste. The only good out of it i saw was that when kids perform , it gives them confidence and when I improvised in the past, I love music for what it was, to be able to express myself. Thus, i think ultimately letting him learn music is to let him have a balance in life and to hone up his other skills. I am a quite scared of the pressure after hearing about NAFA, but i believe there’s always good in tough training too, just that we are not up for it. hehe.
