    • RE: NAFA Arts Kindergarten

      Hi both Clare and insider

I've also heard that Nanyang Kinder is strong in Chinese.. i guess it really depends on individual teachers...

my experience, my daughter doesn't speak a work of chinese till she joined NAFA. When i placed her there, I told the Principal that she doesn't like chinese and she refuses to listen to chinese songs or stories.

i was assured that the lessons carried out by the teachers would be interesting (songs, rhymes, stories and very little writing) and sure enough, my daughter came home and spoke to me in Chinese. My husband was dumb-founded and she was always earger to go to school until i have to pull her out due to illness.

I guess it really depends on the teachers...As a NAFA mum, i'm happy with NAFA's curriculum...holistic...if we want our children to excel in certain areas, then i guess we just have to out in more effort and coach them ourselves...

then again, i wouldn't know when she goes to K2 or will i be really kiasu as to put her thru tuition. 😐

    • RE: How much $$$ do you spend on your Pre-schooler?

      Hi there

I've checked with the admin with regards to payable fees during holidays. She emntioned that since the management has decided to charge on term basis, fees not payable during hoildays..

as of the rest of material fees, some Kindergartens charges more than NAFA. For one like trinity methodist..around $80 per term, both chinese and english readers to be paid separately.

so come to think about it, NAFA still ok. However if i want more enrichment classes for my daughter, dun think i will be able to afford.

also, did you know that they are looking into having a new playground next year? will be good to upgrade their facilities since they are charging this rate.

    • RE: Do you encourage your kid's interest in art?

      funfantastic4:
I am not a \"ART\" person....I can't even draw a straight line freehand. However my hubby can...btw...he's architect.....and so the talent goes downline to my gals in particular the elder one.

I so wanted to send her to NAFA but the waiting list is terribly long. I think they should screen so that only the talented ones are accepted and not simply anybody. Afterall they specialise in Arts and their adult classes are specifically for those who are talented in Arts so why should it be any different for the kids.

I am not trying to be nasty or bias  but I feel that there maybe many children who are talented out there and whose parents want them badly in NAFA to develop their talent but simply cannot get a place becuase of the long queue. Their yearly intake is only 600 but their waiting list is already 1500 long this year. I'm not even sure if my gal can make it for the 2010 class list!

Art is a gift. It is either you have it or you don't, just like if you are gifted or not. It is true that everybody can draw....but not everyone can be a professional artist! As parents, we can see if our kids are talented just by looking at their work. From my hubby's personal experience, he said when he was a child he couldn't stop drawing! He can spend hours drawing...colouring...tracing.....etc. And how he spotted the talent in my gal was when she showcase the same \"symptoms\" and her creations were detailed for someone of her age.

So as parents, we have to distinguish if we want them to take up certain activity because they are gifted in that area or simply just to fill up their spare time. 😄
You mean the JA at NAFA? yes...very long wait list...however, if your child is at NAFA kindergarten, you get priority after the child graudates in K2. 😉

    • RE: How much $$$ do you spend on your Pre-schooler?

      Hi all

      All the calculation...lost...

      my working is for NAFA:

approximately $650 per month...all in (the usual 3 hrs program plus one hr of arts ie. 2x art lessons per week, 2x music lessons and 1 dance).

so, to me, quite a deal...as for GST, ya, quite a bit. wish they could waive them. 😢

    • RE: NAFA Arts Kindergarten

      Hi Hi everyone

Remember me? I was the one raving about how good this school was. I actually pulled my daughter out as she was really sick in october… Really sad. She misses school so much.

I’m enrolling her at NAFA again. Though now it’s the afternoon session. My daughter just wanted to to go back so much…

and yes, i agree as parents you will definitely helped with the music homework…very tedious for someone who knows nothing about music. I dun think i will be sending my daughter for extra music classes…anyway, i just want her to be exposed to all the different arts programmes. if she is really keen or HAVE TALENT, then will think about it later.

As for the academic, some of my friends who are teaching in Primary schools said that NAFA is rather extensive in their curriculum ( a bit ks as i also want to prepare my daughter for P1…ha ha). So quite comforted to know that NAFA is doing its best to help…they integrated jolly phoincs in their curriculum too. So need not pay extra… Also they are using Growing With Math program…reviews about this math program also quite good.

As for the fees, if you really calculate and spread it over 3 months, it’s about $650 per month for the am session / $600 for pm session.

Expensive?? will shop less for myself…have another child to send in when he’s 3 plus…

Overall, I like the school. wonderful teachers and the principal like i mentioned before is always on the ground.

Also, heard that they just organized a sleepover camp for the K2 students… apparently the parents who sent their kids to the camp were delighted and you know what? the principal actually stayed overnight and rought it out with the students…

    • RE: Kindergarten that prepares child well for Primary 1

      HiHi

My girl is in Nursery and from NAFA. I have gone round to many kindergartens to check if their curriculum actually prepare children for P1. my findings...depends on which primary school you have selected for your child. I've talked with some parents from NAFA...some say more than sufficient, while others said no...

I'm also scared to death if my child is ready for P1...went to check further with some of friends teaching in primary school...some schools use the MOE text books...some don't. Generally all children going to P1 must be able to read and write with understand like doing some journal writing..

I then went to MOE's website and have a look at the P1's syl. quiet relieved...at least when she graduate from NAFA...should be able to cope...(then again if I want to send her to SCGS, i will need to coach her more..)

My friends said I'm kiasu but just want to ensure that my children (another on the way) have the best...(mother's stress!!).

My friends are right...parents still need to coach and spend time to reinfroce whatever the child learned in school. 😉

    • RE: How much $$$ do you spend on your Pre-schooler?

      Hi mom2boys

Hope I did not stree you too much. My thinking was sending my daughter with all these enrichment integrated so that I could spend time with her over the weekend. ChiefKaisu is right…I think CC or Kindergarten can help to a certain extend. As parent, we still need to do some reinifrcement at home and help to extend their knowledge further.

Can’t just leave everything to school. NAFA is expensive but I reckon if I send my daughter to enrichment classes over the weekends, I can’t spend quality time with her. Also, the amount may even add up to be more than expected.

Guess we have to weigh what’s important…I also took a while to ponder…hee…hee

    • RE: How much $$$ do you spend on your Pre-schooler?

put my daughter’s name while they had an open house in 2006…wasn’t so sure as to whether to place her there as I was not impressed with the management then… when they called me in 07, realized that the person-in charged has changed. No harm going there and have a look again. I was lucky and I really liked the way things were managed…very friendly and there, i decided to put my darling in…was really good timing and that’s when the enrolment picked up…now, can’t even get a place…recommended NAFA to my friends and they could not get a vacany…

BTW, the current fee is $500 per month (4 hrs) excluding other material fees for existing student… new students pay the new rate and agin excluding …I reckin if I send my dsuaghter to another cheaper kindergarten, I will still need to pay for art, music and so on…

kiasu, huh??? expensive?? mu guess is yes but good!!

      Hi ladies

I'm a newbie...have been following all these on $$$child care or Kindergarte...I have a 4 yr old daughter and I sent her to this Kindergarten (east coast)...wholistc education with fine arts program and of course...the academics.

S$$ 1950 for 10 weeks... so not sending her to any more enrichment classes...they even include the phonics, grammar and so on... My opinion, value for money. 😉
