      mommyNg:
I find the allocation of teachers to this year P6 classes weird. From what I have gathered, it seems that most of the P6 classes this year are assigned teachers who did not teach the respective P5 classes last year (e.g., 3 out of 4 teachers are new to the students). This is strange, since for previous years, the practice has always been that most of the P5 teachers would follow the students to P6, and continue to be their P6 teachers. These teachers would have a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their students and would be better able to teach and guide the students for the next 9 months toward the crucial exam, This would help to minimize disruptions due to adjustments to different teaching/learning styles within such a short timeframe. So I find it so strange to make such major changes, especially puzzling when the teachers got swopped out had been excellent teachers last year. I wonder could it be due to the new principal?

My child had all her teachers changed every year of GEP 4-6. Insufficient time for teachers to know each child, much less the strength and weaknesses.

I think any child who had walked through the 3 years GEP program deserves a standing ovation. Is amazing how the kids can cope with the load and pressure that comes with the demanding program. Many of those work esp Maths I cannot do haha.. do not forget they are only 11- 12 years old only. Given the Singapore education standard being of high standard generally, the MS syllubus is also equally demading. So I hope parents can show more support and cheer for our kids- regardless GEP or not. :rahrah:

I agree with Pen88n. The syllabus of the GEP program is tedious and of higher standard. The kids have to work with tight date lines, lots of research work and projects. I think we should not have doubt that most of them can cope with the IP program, since they were the top 1% being selected. So being selected for DSA should not be surprising. [Interestingly this year, many of my child’s classmates did not receive CO from the schools applied.]

On the other hand, there are also many MS who are very good, if not better then the GEP pupils. Similar to GEPpers, some get CO, some do not. I think there should not be unconstructive comparison of the groups. Let’s cheer the child should he/she receive CO, I believe he/she put in lots of effort.
BTW, my child is GEP but was rejected DSA. So there is no privilege for GEP here.

I will celebrate with my child if there is a CO. The kids went through interviews and tests for it.
