Hi, I suspect this question has been asked many times before but i couldn't find it under search.. My DD is trying for SCGS DSA via choir and needs to go for GAT in June.. I know no preparation is required for the general GAT test, but to ease our nerves, I would like to know if anyone knows of any samples questions so i can show DD what to expect? a glimpse of how the questions look like, more to prepare her mentally so that she won't be sitting for a test cluelessly.. all i know now is from the GAT website and it doesn't have a single question as an example..

      thank you for any feedback!

Some practice will help as most girls would not be familiar with GAT type tests. It will be quite a shock for some girls taking it for the first time.

If you are super kiasu, I think there are a few tutors and tuition centers which can help your kids prepare for the GAT and HAST.

exactly.. but where can i find any sample questions to even take a look? any clues, guidance please? thank you!
Isn't GAT General Ability Test?

I guess they can ask anything under the sky, ya?
There are 60 questions to be answered within 20 mins. The questions gets increasingly difficult. Most of the questions are logical reasoning based. Not too dissimilar to IQ test type questions.

My understanding of DSA to the top 4 schools is as follows. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Most Geppers will be accepted to the top 4 schools.

Mainstreammers' chance is extremely small. Maybe around 30 seats per school and these already include those DSA through sports, arts and music.
GEP students will not need to sit for the entrance tests (GAT and HAST) if their Primary school exams scores are always above 80 or 85% (depending on schools). However they will need to attend an interview as well. For RGS, they reserve Approx 80 plus slots or so for DSA annually equally split between Sports/Others and Academic. For Academic they do not distinguish between GEP or mainstream.

The T with P invitation is a privilege session. Only \"selected\" kids are invited and these are typically girls who are being targeted by RGS for DSA.

Have fun... Ms Poh is a wonderful lady and you will enjoy interacting with her!

      Oh… Another useful info…

For non DSA entry, last year’s RGS COP was 263. However, there were a few DDs who appealed successfully with 262 PSLE scores.

For RGS, from DD experience they target the top 3% of Singapore P6 girls from an academic perspective. DSA academic slots are mostly taken by GEP kids. For sports DSA, your DD will need to be Nationally ranked top 3 or so with International and National tournament experience and fare well in those tournaments.

My gal dsa last yr into one of the top sch. Her PSLE score is about 20 marks off the cut off point. So far she is coping well with both her study and cca. Her tests so far are within the average score. However, there are some classmates who look down on dsa student and refuse to be in the group with them in case they drag down their score. After you get into your dream school, things may not be happily ever after. I did not factor in her emotional problem when I dsa last year. A decision which I regretted.

This is true in the long term when kids starting to know who is who via dsa sports, academics, MEP, GEP, high scorer. Just as a matter of time.
      Study hard lor.

For my DD school, the sports DSA girls are evenly distributed among all the non GEP classes. They are treated as equals in class and most of them are coping very well as DD school encourages project team work where everyone needs to pull their weight and help out each other.

She is very happy in her class and certainly do not feel any inferiority complex. In fact given the standard of some of the sports girls in her school, some of their top sports girls are put on a pedestal and regarded as role models!

      Hi,

For RGS it’s important to be invited to the Tea with P as they call it. Every year they usually have approx 40 or so slots for sports DSA and similar for academic. There will be one T with P for academic and another for Sports.

For the Sports one, it usually means your DD has been pre screened. Given the high standards of RGS sports teams, if you are invited it means your DD will probably be in the top 3 or so in her sports field from a national basis.

      Cheers

Yes you are right. The Sports DSA teacher in charge of the respective sport is the most crucial decision maker. You need to ensure your targeted school dsa sports teacher knows your kids accomplishments and credentials before the process even begins.

My DD dsa through Sports last year.
