I have to agree with you on your concerns for PSLE and the fluctuating grades in P5 😅 it's the same for my P5 child. We are only certain of his Maths and CL/HCL standards, other subjects are sort of in the wind. But what I heard previously from an ex-GEP parents was that the school will usually let the P6 students start doing past year papers in April of their P6 year. I should think it will be similar for our cohort when the time comes.
      2023 P6 GEP parent here.

Real PSLE style past year papers only started in Term 3. Some teachers gave it as June hols homework (not consistent across schools/classes/subjects). Depending on teacher, we are facing issue of a lot of work done but not marked and no feedback/answer sheets given. PSLE is next week, and we only have 3 school days left.

In term 3 they still have other projects for SS and science which took up a lot of time. On top of DSA trials/selections/interviews (not factoring time to prep for these yet).

Don't wait for the school and don't depend on the school if you are hoping for good PSLE results.

My take is should tell regardless of CO or otherwise. If the child is mature enough to go through process of audition/trials/interviews on their own then they deserve to know the results. Kids these days are not as blur as previous gens.

The exception would be if the child had previously instructed you not to reveal till after psle.

And for context, I did. Both good and bad news. But I also did emphasise regardless of outcome, psle is still top priority.
Agree. They went through everything... no need to withhold the news be it good or bad.
For us, from time of application we already kept talking about adjusting expectations and managing disappointment.
What if don't get any CO? What's next? So what should we continue to do to ensure that even if we lose the DSA game, we won't lose the PSLE game?

So we told him immediately once we could. There was no need to withhold information from him.
Yes there was 1 disappointment but it wasn't his first choice, so it was bruised ego more than disappointment for him.

Anyway, we are still working hard on PSLE together even though he has gotten the CO he wants.
Doing your best consistently all the time is more important, be it safety net is there or not.

What are the chances of WL converting to CO?
I think this is subjective. Depends on which school and also individual cohort mentality.

Example: I heard NUSH waitlist has been 100% converted if child puts NUSH as 1st choice. This is 'proven' by the fact that they still have vacancies at SIE.

Another example is HCI waitlist based on 'hearsay' is also almost all converted if put as 1st choice. This is based on experience from parents in the past years, no evidence.

I also heard of schools that have no WL converted because all their COs did put them as 1st choice.

If the school is really what you child wants, just put the WL as 1st choice. Never try never know.
I know some who are intending to not put 2nd or 3rd choices down though they have other schools' COs. They just want the school which they got WL, and if can't get then use results to get in.

Tough decision but you have to weigh it out and do some research on the school's WL converting history.

      Other posters can correct me.

Long long ago, before IP, many top students can score very well in O levels and some disappeared, to better lands after. So then someone came up with IP and skip O (can keep more at home, only speculation...lol)

I have not research abt it but I heard that O levels can open opportunities overseas definitely. Depending on which country and unis. some have bridging pre entry. Good luck!
I had friends who went overseas immediately after Os to do foundation studies.
Reason for doing so is that foundation studies took 1 year only. They entered Uni earlier, and it was easier to get the course they wanted (Vet).

      Hi all,

For RI academic domain L, anyone received any CO already after the interview?

Will RI send out via email? If no Co, will any rejection email be sent to us?
RI Math here, no news yet. Went for interview on Tue, heard from others their interview is tomorrow.
Same interview slots as my boy got English & Science candidates too.
      So probably not so fast?

Based on past trends, seems like RI academic domains will inform last few days of Aug or during Sep holiday week.

NUSH should be emailing parents this week.

That will depend on whether your 1st choice gets converted into the CO, or not.

      Example
      =======

Suppose the pupil submit back these 2 choices back to MOE, as shown below.

Suppose this pupil actually accepted both the Wait list plus CO, from 2 different schools :-

      1) MGS (Wait list), for English domain

      2) SCGS (CO), Badminton Sports

      =======================
      Scenario A -

      Suppose
her 1st choice : MGS Waitlist got successfully converted into CO. Congratrulations ! So, this pupil gets admitted into Sec 1 (MGS Girls' Secondary school).

Computer stop processing for this pupil, then move onto the next DSA candidate, to process next.

      OR

      Scenario B -
Suppose her 1st choice MGS Waitlist failed to get converted.
      Never mind.

Computer moves down to her 2nd choice DSA decision made, to check. Oh ! She has accepted SCGS CO, for badminton, as her 2nd choice. OK, computer slot this pupil into SCGS, since is a CO. So, pupil gets admitted into Sec 1 (SCGS).
This is what I understand too. But the other parents were telling me something slightly different, so very confusing.

In previous years there was some discussion about S1 posting using the new AL scoring system. Somebody postulated that MOE has all the students’ raw scores, and that all of them are ranked from the number 1 in SG all the way down. That’s how the computer can start to process from the top student’s first choice, allocate the school, then keep going down the list, until the school is filled, and so on. A lower ranked student wont get his choices processed before a higher ranked student.

So I wonder if for DSA exercise of preferences, there is a similar consolidated master list (from the top school’s list all the way down), otherwise where to start from?

The other possibility is the computer runs separate schools’ DSA lists independently. In which case there will be some forsaken COs that will not flow to any waitlisters?[/quote]
What I was told by other experienced parents (not sure how true because MOE doesn't go into detail?):
      1. School has a list of CO and WL, in order of preference. Allocated to CO first.
      2. System will allocate to WL people in order of preference according to what the school gave.
      3. This WL preference list is spread across all domains of 1 school.
      4. System then checks:
      (a) School A has 100 DSA vacancies.
      (b) 350 COs across all domains put as 1st choice.
      (c) On hold till all schools 1st choice CO done.
      (d) Go on to WL. School A still has 50 vacancies, so top 50 on WL who put as 1st choice will be taken in.
      (e) Let's say only 30 kids with WL put school A as 1st choice. Then system will move to kids who didn't get any offers yet after looking at their 1st choice, and move on to look at their 2nd choices.
      (f) 2nd choice with CO kids (ranked also) will get in first. If say only 10 such kids at school A at this point enrol, then there's another 10 vacancies and it will repeat to those who put WL for School A as 2nd choice but have not gotten any other schools in their first choice. Then repeat again for 3rd choice.
