Heard from my colleague her friend’s daughter now in sec1 and she cried and stress over her maths. They are learning sec3 maths in sec1. The girl was quite good in maths but still cannot cope. The father want to pull her out of SST if she fail year end.

Possible to pull out ? Thought DSA would be a 4 year commitment and they would admit all students via DSA since they do not take part in the S1 Posting Exercise ?

It is possible to pull out, couple of my friends transfered to other schools in Sec 2. All you will need a acceptance letter and a approval letter from the principal of the applicant school and sst respectively

Well, I got him science, language art and maths assessment books, but will need to do them by topics. He also relies on the school’s notes and hence mainly self learning.

He has no tuition as sst students will not benefit from those usual tuition centres. They are too slow for sst students in term of the topics covered

For tuition, you need to go for 1 to 1 as some topics they covered in S1 are S3 topics.

So is true they learn S3 topic in S1? What would they learn in S3? Seem quite stressful in SST. Don’t know how the new MOE no mid year exam intiative affect SST?

      Hello,
I am a Current Y3 Student in SST. The O'Level Math Syllabus is mainly taught over 3 years in SST [Y1 - Y3] while only 1 Topic is taught in Y4, this allows us ample time to prepare ourselves for O'Levels in Y4. However, our Y1 and 2 Sciences and Humanities still follow the standard MOE syllabus to allow us to make informed choices in our Subject Combi selection in Y2. On the query about the MOE initiative affecting us? I don't think it will affect us much since our lecturers conduct quizzes weekly to gauge our understanding of our topics.

      I hope this helps you!

      Hello!

Sorry for the late response, our end-of-years just ended and now I am free to answer your questions 🙂

The SST Year 1 and 2 curriculum covers all eight subjects taken in Years 3 and 4. As such, we are exposed to all examinable subjects in Years 3 and 4, allowing us to make informed choices on our subject combinations. Besides, our school has a lot of programmes designed to prepare us for O’Level such as our Night Study Programme [Y4] and Study Support Programme [Y1-Y4] which allows students to prepare for their examinations with our lecturers there to aid us.

Don’t worry if your son is not technologically or scientifically inclined. Our students are taught ICT in Y1 and Y2 with Computing being an Applied Subject for the O’Levels. Our students are diverse in their skills. Some are mathematically inclined, others being artistically inclined, such as our Design Studies [DS] Students [Shameless-Self Promo: Follow me @NP_Designs on Instagram to view our DS Projects] Comparing to IB? Well, our course of study is a mix between both IB and Cambridge, with Experimental Sciences and Mathematics being a core subject in our curriculum. So don’t worry, our educational level is practically on par with that of institutions like SJI and RI. With many of our students being accepted into both schools post-O’s.

Our students also have a close relationship with our juniors. Students tend to share and help each other holistically and academically such as our Design Studies students guide our juniors on their ADMT projects while Academic Notes are passed down year by year to aid them. Many may not see it, but, we are proud to be in SST since SST has provided us with a place of education for four years of our lives, relationships and bonds have been built, bonds that will never be broken.

Many of us are accepted into SST via DSA [80%], but many more are accepted post PSLE [20%]. This allows us to give a chance to those who failed in the DSA rounds but are still determined to join us. So, don’t worry, you still have a chance.

Again, apologies for the VERY late reply but I wish all you the best for PSLE! I hope to see you/your children next year in school!

      Hi all

My DS got a CO for SST. Would appreciate if anyone can provide further information and feedback for us to make an informed decision at end Oct when we have to submit the form.

      1. Heard that teachers cover the syllabus very very fast and students really have to be very independent, or require tuition outside, otherwise may have difficulty coping. Is that true?

      2. Read some earlier pages in this forum that there might be a problem where teachers keep changing. Is that the norm? Are their teachers supplied by MOE or they have to employ independently, or a mix? If mix, what would be the percentage of manpower supported by MOE?

      3. What is the class size per class? Heard it's around 20+? Is that all the way til Sec 4?

      4. Heard of a number of ex-students getting into computer/gaming addiction, more risk because of the pervasive use of IT devices in the curriculum. How does the school help to keep this in control?

      5. I can't seem to find info on their O-level results for the past years (except news on SST's first batch of graduates). Anyone has these info, esp the most recent results?

So sorry for the many questions. I'm still quite an \"old-school\" person, so I'm apprehension about such \"future schools\", but my son seems keen in taking up the offer, or to progress up in his current school (he has potential to score 240+ or more for PSLE to remain in Cat High, but then, we never know).
      Hello to all parents/concerned students!

I am a current Secondary 3 student from the School of Science and Technology.

First off, congrats on the confirmed order and the end of PSLE [It ended right today?]! It must have been a very mentally straining few months for the Primary Six students, so enjoy your holidays! I hope to see you/your children in school next year!

I’ll start off with the basics! Our classes are composed of about 25 students per class in Lower Secondary [1 & 2], with about 3 – 5 girls per class. While in Secondary 3/4 classes vary based on their subject combination. This is to reduce the class size such that each student’s learning is tailored to fit their style. But still, the teacher is always there to guide while it is still the student’s responsibility to take charge of their learning.

Besides that, most of our teachers are Ex-MOE/MOE Contract/MOE Certified educators. While some are teachers from top countries in education with varying degrees. [e.g. UK] Our teachers are also Google/Apple Certified Educators so don’t worry about the switching of teachers or their certifications [its good anyway] as most of them have fantastic track records! With results ranging from B3s to A1s and Batch1/2 students who are in Oxbridge and Ivy-League Schools.

Our teachers go through the topics quickly, but still slow enough such that no students lag behind. Homework and Assignments are issued on schedules that have been feedbacked on by previous years, so don’t worry about endless mountains of homework, because it has been planned so that there is no overlap between assignments. Therefore, our fantastic O-Level admission results! [I can only remember the rough results for the past three years sorry!]

      - Polytechnic Eligibility: 100%
      - JC Eligibility: 85% - 92%
      - Average Score: 5 - 6.5

Finally, I understand your concern about the addiction issue. But don’t worry, our school is very stringent on the use of Learning Devices [LD] and most of the time, pen and paper is still our best friend. Our teachers keep a close on eye on their students during lessons with the LDs involved since we don’t want them to be distracted, do we? Besides, if you suspect your child is gaming or is addicted to the LD, you can always email their Form Teacher and have an LD check conducted by the school or just confiscate it.

So that’s all for today folks! I hope to see you/your child at A Day @ SST or maybe next year in school! If you have any more questions, drop a question tagging me yeah?

      Regards,
      YJGoatee

      Cheekie:
Any parents know what they will be doing during this selection camp?

      Hello!

I'm a student is currently studying in SST, while the teachers do look for prospective students, they look out for those with the ability to think on the spot, work well with others and conquer unexpected challenges. The school wants those with the passion for science and technology, but also those who have the desire to do well. In my personal experience, just be yourself, do not try to \"fake\" your way through, because our teachers can see through the smoke... Erm, let's say, they deal with it a lot, especially during humanities. Be yourself; the teachers do look for one thing, the most important thing, which is respect and honesty.

The DSA Phase II for our school will have the students split up into groups of 4/5, in which group interviews are carried out, but do note, in these interviews, respect your other interviewees, or they usually won't accept you. After the group interviews, they would have you go through a challenge. In 2015 they had my team design and built a parachute, which had various requirements and restrictions, which will hinder prospective students, in a right way. This is a part of the process to see what prospective students can achieve via creative and critical thinking.

For those going for the Phase 2 next week, CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK!
I hope to see you for the \"A Day @ SST\" and/or in school next year!

      Regards,
      An SST Student

    • RE: All About Overseas Education

Hi, I’m a secondary school student.

Recently after my exams, I started to research more about study overseas, and noticed that most overseas Unis require SIPCAL [Singapore Integrated Programme Cambridge A-Levels, however, I must ask, is staying express to head to JC more advisable or going IB more advisable? Thanks
