I thought the booklist was given before orientation. Anyway, you will be given few days to buy, not just on that day. Also, it's not at the tiny bookshop. They will setup at another place along the corridor, somewhere near the classroom where the uniform vendor sells uniforms, to allow parents to buy books. The area is more spacious and not so cramp. The book vendor already pre-packed everything (according to P1 booklist) into a neat box. If you have nothing to add/remove, just pay, take and go. It's pretty straightforward. For me, I ask them to remove the Pic Dict, which was not required by school.

You may also order your textbook from the vendor online and collect another day. You will be given instructions to do so.

Hi Timtim, thanks for yr info. Did u receive the booklist by post or the school will inform u to correct fr them?

If ever have it before orientation, it should be by post. Maybe other parents can comment on this aspect as I try to dig my brain, but still can't remember if it was before or on orientation day. In any case, I don't feel that was a problem or very last minute so it must be ok lah. So just wait and see how it turns out. Cheers!
If I recall correctly, last year the book list we only got on the orientation day. That's because my Hubby and I forgot to bring extra $$$ to pay for books, uniform, shoes etc etc... We were digging into wallets to empty out whatever dollar notes we had.. in the end we opted to go for the book ordering online and pay for a delivery fee to have the books sent to the home.. saves us a lot of hassle on collecting the books.. just need to be careful to select correct school online as the bookshop company services many schools.

Hi, can anyone advise whether homework load is hectic in P1?

My gal in P1 this year. Some days she has tons of homework but some days none. Noticed that usually when she gets lots of homework is when teachers get them to practice / revise for the coming mastery tests. But on those days, she can get homework for 2 or 3 core subjects - maths, english and chinese. I really pity her for those days as she really does homework till she is so sleepy at night. We are worried that the grandma has no time to get her to do homework in the morning. When she was on 3 to 4 days mc for fever, the homework catch-up to keep up with the days she missed school was really quite tough on her. šŸ˜“

      hi,

also want to ask if we need to buy the books and uniforms on orientation day itself? or we can do e-ordering of book first?

ectanz, i have alos thought of getting a trolley bag as my girl requested that i get one for her in p1. A lot of my frens warn me the danger and also it might hurt my girl back cos if she has to climb stairs, they are not allowed to drag the bag. I will consider to get an ergonomic bag for her

Larkspur, I hv bought a trolley bag for my girl before when she was in k1. Ended, i was the one carried the bag when fetching her from school.

My in-laws worried tat my girl might hurt her back carrying heavy textbooks in normal type of bag when she is in p1 and would like us to consider a trolley bag.

My girl in P1 now is also very petite.. when I got her an ergonomic bag (medium sized) at start of p1, she looked like she will fall over. Everyone said the bag looks too big for her...Anyway, she has gotten used to it and no issues with it so far... šŸ˜„

Hi, I am new here and aimed to register my child to NPC this year.

Appreciate any experienced parents could share with us usually when will we need to obtain the application form from SHKK for P1 Registration Phase 2B in 2011, what is the procedure to apply the recommendation letter from SHKK ?

Also the website of SHKK mentioned, \"You will be informed by the School if your application is successful.\" If this is the case, Usually when will the school notify us the application result. Also if really failed, is it really no chance to appeal ?? How should we do? Ask SHKK or ask School?
Hi.. my kiasu husband applied 3 years before the actual registration.
The procedure is there's a SHHK form to be signed by 2 extg SHHK member to recomend the new member. Once this form submitted to SHHK and pay registration fees etc, the new member only confirmed joined SHHK at the next AGM.
During the year of P1 registration, SHHK will look at how long member joined or how active member is before they submit a list of member names to SHHK schools. If member name selected then you will get letter from SHHK/ school before the P1 registration, but my Husb called SHHK around apr to confirm if his name in. Registration for phase 2B around Jun/Jul if I recall.

Hi, correction. There is no balloting for those less than 1km under P2B. You may checked the balloting history in this forum. My son got in this yr without balloting in P2B as I stays within 1km. Ballot only for 1 to 2 km. Above 2km, no chance at all as all vacancies taken up for those less than 2km.

timtim, ur child is the first child to enrol? as i stay within 1km. so meaning no balleting? this is not what i heard from other frens who stay at my area and their kids cant get in too. all within 1km.

Did you find out from them which phase they applied? Likely Phase 2C. For Phase 2B (if you're eligible), no ballot if you stay within 1km. However, this is past records and may not apply for future intake, more so if there is reduction of intake due to single session.
Just to share my girl is also 1st child to apply for NCPS last year under phase 2B. During registration then, admin staff informed that we most likely no need to ballot cos we stay within 1km, but told us to check MOE website then for details. True enough within 1km under phase 2B no balloting. Not sure about other phases tho.

I knew is that NCPS will be building another 6 more floors of classrooms.

The school will demolish an existing classroom block to make way for the new classroom block, which will only be ready by end 2012. This will definitely stretch the existing classrooms to its limit next year, so for 2012 P1 , I believe there will be a reduction in intake. I think we should know in another few months when the P1 registration takes place.

      hi all,
Was re-reading the pdf on the school upgrading. There will be 20 temporary classrooms in the completed indoor sports hall to tide over the period where the existing block is to be demolished. So I don't think the intake will be reduced.
My girl has a classmate since P1, who always like to today be your frenz, tomorrow dun be ur frenz. The worst thing she would ask all her frenzs dun be my girl frenz.. 😢

Undertand this is kind of growing up process, I guess, but how should I console my girl not to be bother abt such issues?
I have been saying again and again to ignore her but today still come back crying abt this girl...

      what should I do?

My girl same here. One of her classmate aslo when she likes, friend my girl, don't like friend others. But not bad as to tell other classmates not to friend her. šŸ˜ž

Tell your girl not to give up, look around, observe her classmates, there sure be one of them likes to be her friend. šŸ˜„

Sigh.. this is part of the growing. I guess there's not very much we as parents can do other to let them know that we are always there for them. I still remembered the same thing happened to me when i was in preimary school. I ended playing with the boys because they are less \"petty\" with such things. As long as u can play, guys generally dun pick on you. As opposed to girls, some how we pick on others for all kinds of things... funny looking hair, speak strangely, fat, quiet etc...
I ended quite a tom boy in my early childhood years because of that. No matter what, all ends well. I exhibit no macho traits as an parent now. I cook, sew, wear make up, shop like all other women.

That being said, no matter what i think this relationship issues are not that bad in lower primary. I worry when they grow older, BGR, jealousy, puberty. That i admit, was a big hurdle in my life. Even subsequently when i started work.
Just found out that my P1 gal gets bullied in school bus... There's a P1 boy that demands she bring extra food for him to eat on the way home and he also sometimes takes stuff that my gal buys from the school book shop. There's another P1 gal that also sometimes takes stuff from her. Guess they have more time to interact on school bus since the journey takes 45 mins from NCPS to reach my mom's place. My gal is the 2nd last on the school bus each time.

My gal is very kind hearted and generous, but we are trying to teach her to fend for herself and not give in to these kids.. as part of growing up...But as parents we will still worry... like when should we approach the other kids' parents etc... šŸ˜ž

      Hi Parents,

Would like to check if anyone else had trouble logging into this http://www.ezhishi.net website? My gal from P1 came home and said her chinese teacher asked her to complete her homework in the website but we can't get in.

      Hi yym,

First you LOGON under website : http://lms.asknlearn.com/ncps/

then go under 'CONTENT' and choose right below 'eZhishi'.

Thanks for the tip. The teacher made my gal write down the website in her handbook. We were wondering why we need to access so many websites and thot that all should be from the student learning portal. Glad you helped clear this up.

      Hi,
My gal in 1J. Anyway the admin side say her account was deactivated but they restored it already, so she could do her homework on line now.
