Guys just saying, I got 234 for my PSLE and went to Tanglin Secondary school. Transferred in the second year to Commonwealth and transferred again in sec 3 to a school called SST. I still think my first secondary school was better. You see, as my friends always say, a good school is important. But don't you guys think that at the end of the day, every Singaporean in secondary school have to take the same O levels paper? Every school has an MOE approved syllabus? Right? These syllabus is approved as they are part of the O levels paper. If all of you parents want your kid to go to a better school, of course, they will be taught more things. As powerful our brain is, we cannot remember a lot of things. Neighbourhood schools are different. They teach us and make sure we understand the basics, which in the end make us understand the questions in the exam. Memorising answers are important, but it is easier to do well if we understand the question and understand the theory behind it. Isn't that what learning is about? To me, Parents just want their kids to do well. But all of you should think from our point of view. A lot of my friends in my Sec 3-4 School (I'm in JC now) thinks that we need to do well and memorise. They think like this is because that is what they were thought by their teachers and parents. But as for me, I still prefer my Sec1 school. They teach us to understand the question in order to do well. Not saying everyone is wrong I am only a JC student talking to parents with kids already. I'm younger and inexperienced in this. But then again, think. Would you rather your kids go to a good school and start memorising everything, or a neighbourhood school but they understand more.

It is worth considering that in Sec 1 they allow more freedom to get used to it, whereas in Sec 3 and 4 more time is spent on preparing you for the paper - more memorising as you would call it. For me it isn't a matter of curiosity or learning. Most of us here definitely want that. I would just say that our education system is not exactly ideal for the time to ask and question everything.

Quite true but, I still prefer neighbourhood schools, lots of my seniors in TSS when I was sec 1 told me that there was many people who did well in sec 4. I think neighbourhood schools are better as they can make people from low t score to high o lvl scorers. But it's a matter of perspective.
