    • RE: Edusave Scholarship Award

      Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before I browsed the forum for information but didn’t get enough to addressed my question.

My son is to sit for the Edusave Scholarship for Indep Schools ESIS test in a couple of weeks. He is currently in Sec 3 in IP.

However, we are all unsure how to prepare for this test:

      1. Is this a MCQ type paper? Is there questions that need written answers in paragraphs? How many questions?
      2. Is it a IQ-type / general reasoning paper, like a high ability test? Or does it cover school topics in Y1-Y2?
      3. Is it cover only English, Math and IQ type question? Or include other subjects?
      4. What are the criteria for getting the ESIS at this stage? Is it e.g. op 50% of ESIS test takers? Or something else?
      5. Any other information we need to know or prepare for?

Would greatly appreciate sharing and feedback from any parents whose children had taken the ESIS test in Sec 3!

      Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has been asked before, I had browsed the forum for this information but did not get a definite answer to my question.

Wondering if any parent is able to share their sons’ experience with the Edusave Scholarship for Independent Schools ESIS test (for Sec 3)? My son is to attend the test coming up in a couple of weeks time, but we are all not sure if any preparation is needed, or is it a IQ type paper that doesn’t need preparation, or will it cover topics in Y1-2? What is the format, type of questions covered, difficulty level, etc, and the chances of getting the ESIS (i.e. is it top 50% of the ESIS test takers, based on Y1-2 results, etc?).

Any insights into this will be greatly appreciated!

I didnt come across any subjects/courses that are exactly what you mentioned, but there are similar topics covered in the many out-of-classrooms and enrichment programs that cover aspects of design and technology. There is also an annual IDEX competition that students can participate in, as well as others such as Pathfinders programs. You can find out more such programs at ACSI website, under talent development. There's also a huge range of CCA that caters to many interests, and some of them could be relevant to the below, e.g. in the robotics / computer tech clubs.

      Hi there,

Hope someone can help w this question :

I am wondering if Acsi offers the Design & Technology or the Food & Consumer Education to their O level and IB students? If not, what do the boys do in lieu?

      Thanks!!

There's 8 classes of Express and 5 classes of IP in Sec 1 for my son's year (he just finished Sec 2), although this may vary by year. Usually 30+ per class. All normal core subjects taught e.g. languages, math, sciences, etc are examinable. Non-core like arts and music are also graded, but no final year exams. Elective programs like music, regional studies, are examinable as well.

Hi Everyone. Can I find out how many classes are there for the O level track? Are there 40 students in a class or less since this is an independent school? My advanced thanks for your replies.
In addition what are the examinable subjects taught at Sec 1. I heard that this varies for non core subjects.

      Hello everyone,

Read that the optimal marks for L1R5 for Sec 2 Express to enter IP in Sec 3 is 85%. Is the school looking at just the average of L1R5 scores, or they screen first by L1R5=6 then 7, 8 etc before looking at the average marks for 85%? Cos some students may get 6 but low A1s, and some may get 8 but mix of high A2s and high A1s.

And TBH, in my son’s Sec 2 class, there is only 1-2 students who can meet 85% average so far, and there are 7 Express classes, not sure about other classes students how they do. My son doing 81-82% so far, did well-ish for HAST and interview, I’m not sure about his chances, if the school is looking at 85%.

Would the school consider marks less than 85% and L1R5 > 6? Are there parents whose sons successfully went from Express to IP in Sec 3, and what were your results and experience?

      TIA for any feedback!
