It seems like there’s very little resources for Sec 1 exam or test papers. There are a few for download on some websites but mostly only maths and science and not very updated.

Anyone got recommendations for website to download Sec 1 papers?

Hi! The school's science department would have a depository. Perhaps you can check in with the science teacher and request for practice papers. The teacher would be able to select the more relevant ones for you. hope it helps!

Also applies for the other subjects 🙂 Approaching the subject teachers would be the easiest.

Is there a list of recommended Physics reference books and workbooks? If child is still in lower sec, should we just get O-Level reference materials and TYS to learn and practice? Or it should be level specific?

      Thank you,
Hello! There isn't a specific list of recommended physics books. However, the science department of every school will discuss and decide the best resources that will supplement the teaching. Hence, it is safe to follow the teachers' advice.

For a student who is still in lower sec, I would recommend not to get O lvl reference material yet. This is because, the focus for Sec 2 and Sec 3/4 is different. The focus at sec 2 level is on scientific skills and developing an interest in the learning of science, whereas at Sec 4, the focus is on preparing students for O lvls. The topics, the depth and the breadth of the topics will be different. At the end of sec 2, there will be a streaming exercise where students will choose the type of science to pursue, ranging from Combined to Pure, Bio to Phy to Chem etc. We also find that students are better able to grasp the concepts when they are in Sec 3-4.

In summary, my advice is, there is no need to get the reference materials or TYS too early on 🙂

Original Title: Failed Maths & Science Subjects

My son has done very badly in his Sec 3 Mid-Year Exam, esp in his core subjects of E. Maths, A. Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

      Can anyone help?
To do well for maths and physics, regular daily practice with immediate clarifications on doubts is very important. Practice is key, e.g. 5 maths qns and 5 physics qns a day would be good start. This helps to apply the theory. Your child should quickly ask the teacher if in doubt.

As for chemistry, I believe understanding the chapter is key. The way to study chemistry is different from maths and physics. I think your child's chem teacher can advise the best.
