But then within IP schools, they split their students between GEP and mainstream. Majority of students got into RI, RGS, etc actually thru PSLE route doing fine.

I believe all kids have huge potentials. Provide them the environment, they can excel.

Let us talk more on DSA. Do you think that certain CCAs are easy than others in DSA in terms of competition?

Wow! looks like your son is sure to get a place. Although my son was selected by his school for SMOPS, he didnt get any award coz his school didn't provide any formal training 😢 He was selected based on his consistent good results for Maths. He was only given 4 lessons (2 hours each) by his Maths teacher and off he went for the competition. Is like sending him to the battle field without teaching him how to hold his rifle :stupid:

In my opinion, Maths Olympiad is not like any other gifted test (e.g P3 GEP screening test or GAT whereby preparation is not encouraged). In fact, I realised that many schools engaged external trainers to train their students and on top of that, some parents even sent them for private tuition.

Anyway, I'm not putting too much hope for DSA coz it's really tough competing among all the awardees. I am already happy that he was selected for the RI Selection test as I know of people with formal training didn't even make it to the selection round :?
My son was not selected to represent his school (As there are too many GEP pupils). He did not have any external training. I have to provide the 'internal' training for him.
Hi Learningparent,

With a platinum, yr son's got both feet in RI's door already. Fret not.

      Congrats! :celebrate:

Thanks, but not very sure. One of my friend son got Platinum in 2007 He applied HCI DSA and was only in the waiting list. But I heard that this year RI will offer more DSA places than last year.

Did your friend's son get into HCI thru DSA eventually?
Yes. I think almost all the pupils on the waiting list can get in.

      Hi learningparent and justkp,

I'm quite kaypoh; so don't mind share if yr sons got a platinum in the smops and high d in NSW-ICAS Maths?

It's ok if you don't tell. just kp only. 😉
Hi Mathsparks, Yes. he got a plantinum in smops and high d in nsw. I personally believe that RI DSA is hardest. It is even difficult to be shortlisted.

Hi, I am new. Just want to share with my observation on sport DSA. For tennis, RI only accepts top 4 players in Singapore age group competition. But do remeber that not all top players want to go to RI to 'suffer'. Another top school can not attact top players, so it has lower the requirement. The coach approached almost whole my son's primary school team and promise them a place in the school. But few takers as some want to go to the schools strong in Tennis. My son selected RI to apply DSA through maths and this school through maths too. I think sport DSA is that difficult for certain sport as few players.

Hi, my son also DSA RI under Maths domain. Did he take the test on 11 or 25 July? What he think of the test? My son said paper 1 ok but paper 2 very tough. Did u receive any good news so far?

He took on 25 July. He told me the same feeling. No news yet.
