Concept tested here is that heat is transferred from object at higher temperature to object at lower temperature.

Body temperature is 37 deg C while surrounding normally lower. Hence body loses heat to surrounding.

Y is better conductor of heat, hence heat is lost at faster rate through Y.

We bought ours 6-7yrs ago, so model may not be available anymore. So think it’s better to just ask the people at the shop.

Anything is interesting to see under microscope.


When kid was younger, we took all sort of stuff around the house to examine, e.g. fabric, hair. Now older, link to science. Sometimes related to topics taught in school, maybe more in depth, e.g. germination of pollen grain.

Since there are things I know we can’t prepare at home, we also bought sets of prepared slides. Kid loves to see these, e.g different types of cells, proboscis of bee, leg of insect etc..

The one we have allow us to see chloroplasts. Didn’t try mitochondrion.

The shop sells a whole range of microscopes, even very advanced ones. But may cost a lot. They demo a few for us so we could decide which is better for us. Still waiting for kid to be older and to major in science before I can justify in buying advanced ones.

Don’t know if they sell stain. Have to check with them or get it elsewhere.

In primary schools, the kids don’t get to use microscopes much. More often than not, it’s group work.

We bought one for our kid so we can explore more about science. Most of the time, we go beyond what is needed at primary level. We like to see it for ourselves instead of just relying on books whenever possible.
Nowadays, you can get an affordable one that is not a toy. Just need to find the right place. Definitely not those from Toys r us.

You can try getting from Astro Scientific. It is located at the linkway of Singapore Science Centre. Not the shop that sells toys and other stuff near the entrance but further down the linkway.


They have a good selection of different types of microscopes. May be able to get one with the right price range for you. Their prepared slides are good too.

For low dose 0.01% atropine eye drop, there is minimal side effects. This is the usual dosage to start with.

Although my kid’s ans is usually not the typical ‘model answer’, kid’s science score is among the top and by the teacher’s standard advanced. Also definitely not the product of TLL or other forms of tuition.


The teaching materials used for Science is the same but how it is taught can varies greatly. Last year, science teacher’s teaching style is quite detrimental and caused more harm than good in acquiring science knowledge. As a result, my kid had to do a lot more self-study to maintain standard.

Most GEP science questions tend to require higher order thinking, so true understanding is essential to do well. It does really takes time and effort to really understand each topic. But when a kid understands topic well, not just by memorize key words, kid can then answer the questions in a logical way.

ans:
1) birds nest Fern has chlorophyll so they can make food while fungi cannot make their own food.

Can the answer be Birds nest Fern has roots while fungi do not have roots.?

2) What's the difference between Flowering and non flowering plants?

Both have roots, stems, leaves? Is this correct? , wondering do all fungi have stem?

There are more than 2 differences between a fern and fungus. I will just list out 2 that are applicable for P3 science.

1) 1st difference: Bird’s nest fern has chlorophyll and hence able to make it’s own food while bracket fungus doesn’t have chlorophyll and is unable to make it’s own food.

2nd difference: Bird’s nest fern has leaves, stem and roots while bracket fungus doesn’t.


2) Flowering plants bear flowers to help the plants reproduce while non-flowering plants don’t bear flower for reproduction.

Fungus doesn’t have true stem, leaves and root.

It is condensed water vapour, formed by condensation.

Same as the one seen from one’s breath when it’s cold enough.
