SAHM_TAN:Oldschool:
Amy and Betty shared 200 cookies. After Amy ate 30 cookies and Betty baked another 28 cookies, they had the same number of cookies. How many cookies did Betty have at first?Hi, http://i44.tinypic.com/2zgt1cp.jpg\"> RegardsHi,In this qn, the 200 cookies includes the 28 cookies that Betty baked later?
Hi,Interesting. If the question arises because of my poor MD presentation then I’m sorry. You can scroll up for much clearer drawings.Otherwise, at this level, mathematics is generally considered to be sequential in nature. When it is communicated in words or orally, it must be clear.Likewise, when it is interpreted, it must be logical. Thus, it is important for both the communicator and the interpreter to recognize the framework for the passage of events. In other words, “sequencing activities in terms of time” – i.e. what come first, second and third or where is the starting and ending point. In this question, the sentence “Amy and Betty shared 200 cookies” did not specify if they had 200 cookies “at first” or “in the end”. However, this sentence precedes the next sentence “After…..30 and ….28 cookies”. Therefore, following this sequence of description or chronological order, one would interpret that Amy and Betty had 200 cookies at first. Hence, it does not includes the 28 cookies baked by Betty thereafter. Regards

angel:Does a mammal which lay eggs (eg Platypus) also suckles its young? My DS thinks only mammals which give birth to young alive suckle its young. What is your take? All mammals suckle their young. In fact, they are named mammals after the mammary glands which are found in all female mammals. The function of the mammary glands is to produce milk for the mammals' offspring.Hope this helps.

    slmkhoo:eng61043:
Flock can be used for both birds and hoved animals which move in groups. So it can be used for sheepBut herd is only used for group of animals..and humans..So I feel herd of sheep is more apt.As such both can be used, not sure which one the teacher approves of as correct answer.Did your child check with teacher? The correct answer from the sch is flock! My DS answered herd:(I would agrees both acceptable. Both should be accceptable, thought 'flock' is probably more common for sheep. I dislike having to 2nd-guess the teacher - this is just a bad question.
Yup, the school is accepting both answers now after I have discuss with them:)Handling difficult question is already a problem, still got to handle bad question :?
