      Hi all

Came across the below from one of the newspaper, they claim that they can transform your kids from a low grade to PSLE 250 or above by a
4 session of 3hrs of counselling. They will teach your child the concept of PSLE, the techniques to excel, and how to avoid careless mistakes and all…

Any comments on this ? Below is the extract…

"We specialise in teaching your child how to achieve top results in school because all our trainers are 1st Class Honours graduates with years of teaching and mentoring experiences. Your child will be taught all the strategies, techniques and our First Class secrets, which he/she can apply all the way to the university level.

Call us to book a FREE 1-to-1 preview with your child today! "

It’s a motivational class I think. Adam Khoo said he only started to work hard after attending a motivational session. If money is not a concern, no harm I guess but don’t expect miracles. Still need to study hard.

Agree with cherrygal. It is too good to be true that by attending a 12-hrs course can get 250 in t-score.

If a child’s fundamental is weak, 12 hrs course is definately not enough.

Guess only suitable for those intelligent kids with no motivation to study.

had called up to check with them, they say that there will be a 45min preview with the kid, followed by another 45min with the parent.

Thereafter, decision of Yes or No have to be given on the same day… If a reply given as need some time for consideration, they say they will not accept the child anymore … sounds ridiculous

Counseling to boost PSLE results? All those motivational talks?

If child is motivated, you don’t need to pay those few thousand…if child is not motivated, it doesn’t help either. Keep the few thousand for holiday after PSLE.

yes, it is not a small sum to pay for the motivation talk… but for parents with kids that won’t listen the them and near blood vomiting stage… maybe thats the last resort that the parent will go for… to take the risk of throwing thousand over dollars to the drain.

These motivational agent is aiming for those parent who can’t help their own child and is at their wits end, and thats the time the parent will buy their story due to no choice… But if there is any sucessful stories, pls share here…

Most motivational talks can only motivate. They don’t really teach or cover study subject matter. They can be useful if done early enough, such that the child understands why he needs to study, and instill the confidence for them to seek excellence. Some courses also try to impart various mental techniques and good habits of mind. These are nice skills to have.

But at this late juncture, learning and mastering these skills in time to apply for the final exams is likely going to be a challenge. It might be better to focus on drilling to ensure that the child understands and master actual subject matter.

Also, I would be careful of any educator that makes claims on outcomes which are difficult to measure.

Sounds fishy to me... Like those timeshare or beauty companies \"if you don't sign up now, we cannot offer you the package/discount anymore.\"

                      Beware.

Wow, pressure tactics… if you are the type who cannot tahan such tactics and cave in, then don’t even go for the previews. Maybe should spend the money on the famous subject tutors who include motivation instead.
