Planned to go to Taiwan free and easy during June holidays. Seems like I have to change my family holiday plans. Sigh

Wonder if it’s safe to travel to Taiwan in June (with elderly and kids above 10 yr)? Anyone still going ahead despite H7N9 ?

Seems like the situation is under control, so we're not shelving our travel plans to Taiwan.
Something to share for those travelling free and easy to Taiwan. You can collect a freebie from the Taiwan Visitors Association. I went last April and they gave an EasyCard that was already loaded with NT$100, so all you got to do it top up value when you reach.

Hi,
I am traveling to Taiwan in a group of 15 with elderly and children, F&E. Any good driver to recommend in hualien and yilan? Is it possible to get a mini bus/van to accommodate 15 of us. And is it tiring to travel from hualien - Yilan - Taipei on the road instead of taking the train? We are planning to take the express train from Taipei to hualien to start our trip.We are first time travelling to Taiwan, so hope to hear from those who had been there.
Thanks -
Hello Mum2BG,
A van only sits 9 people max. Have you checked on the cost of traveling from Taipei to Hualien using train? Since you have 15 people, it may cost more than engaging private drivers.
For 15 pax, you will have to engage a mini bus that can sit 22 people. This kind of arrangement usually cost S$ 550-700 per day. It will include the driver/guide's daily cost. It may be expensive at 1st glance but if you divide up the cost among 15pax plus the convenience of having a driver and not needing to drag luggage etc, it may be reasonable cost.
Sometimes when the driver charges you a daily rate, they still expect you to pay for their meals and hotel stay. So please be sure to check it. Of course it isnt a big deal to eat together with driver but sometimes it can be a bit inconvenience in term of taste or preference.
if you want to get a driver contact, you can try http://www.tripadvisor.com. Search under Taiwan forum. -
Hi Hi
I am organising our first tour with my five-year-old DS. We are going to Taiwan in July 2013. As this is our first tour, I hope it will be a relaxing one. I am actually contemplating between a DIY tour or a package tour. I think package tour is much cheaper and less hassle. I was quoted $378 for adult and $298 for child for a 6D packaged land tour. However I think a DIY tour will be more fun.
This is my itinerary if going on my own :
Day 1 - Arrival
Day 2 - National Museum (故宮), Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall (紀念堂), Taipei 101, 士林夜市 (Shi Lin Night Market)
Day 3 - Nanya Rock (南雅), 九份, YeLiu Geopark (野柳), Yang Ming Shan hotspring (陽明山), Pingxi/Shifen
Day 4 - 北投 Hell Valley, 淡水老街
Day 5 - Travel to Cing Jing
Day 6 - Half day tour from CingJing to Hehuanshan
Day 7 - Return from CIng Jing to Taipei
Day 8 - Home sweet home
For hotel, I am thinking of Cosmos in Taipei as I was told it is very near Taipei Main Station. For CingJing, DH has chosen Misty Minsu over Starry Minsu as he feels that the Misty seems nicer in their rooms.
For transport, I will engage a private taxi on Day 3. For travel to CingJing, I will travel HSR to TaiChung. From TaiChung HSR, take another bus to Misty Minsu.
I have the following queries :
1. How long is the journey from Taipei to CingJing?
2. Do we have to pay for all the activities in Misty Minsu?
3. Do I need to get a private taxi in CingJing or the activities there will be enough to occupy us?
I am thinking if time permits, I will sqeeze the sightseeing on Day 2 to Day 1 and Day7/8. So that I could go to Maokong and the zoo in Day 2.
What do you guys think of the itinerary? -
Hi,
May I know where did u enquire on the land package tour.
We are also going to Taipei in June and it is my first trip with two DS to Taipei so I need to plan the itinerary.
Cheers
