Disneyland

Oh I must have missed their school holidays when I was there in summer time. Every ride was a breeze....not much queues and much could be achieved. Was in Disney HK in July 2008. Planned it to avoid the local school holidays but forgot to consider the school term in China/HK.
So ended up in HK right smack in the school holiday season for both China/HK. Had to queue to death for all the popular rides and was squashed left, right and centre everywhere :x
Trust me, when that happens in the summer heat, it is not at all funny. So my honest advice to those planning to visit Disney HK is that you must check the dates carefully (i cannot emphasize enough, really!) to avoid the school hols there.
Cheers! -

hahaha ks2me... i wonder what sort of 'excitement' you're imagining to do in disneyland with your joy luck club...
... as grandparent then with my joy luck club next time.. All different kinds of excitement. -

Also no food allowed in HK Disneyland, you have to buy the food inside.
oh dear... my daughter (and me) eats all the time!
\"ouch!\" said the wallet. -
flim:
Oh in my mind...I think I will have alot of fun challenging the members of the club who dares to go on which rides and we collect our joy luck club points from there...to exchange for a dim sum treat at the \"Red Star\" back in SG

hi ks2me,
You’re lucky! I remembered one elderly lady even fainted from heat exhaustion /congestion at the train station in Disneyland. :!:
My only consolation was that we booked a room at the Disney hotel (the cheaper one of the 2) and whenever DD1 was getting exhausted from the heat, we just went back to the room to rest till it was evening before we ventured back to Disneyland again.
That was really 1 unforgettable experience - the human/heat wave! -
ponyo:
Wah the fainting sounds bad, poor old lady. That was why I bought the mini-mouse umbrella lor.....otherwise the fainting lady might be ME! It was hot but the rides being a breeze compensated the heat for us. But I can imagine if the queues were long plus the heatwave...it will be TOTALLY UNBEARABLE.hi ks2me,

Film, try your very best to avoid August - our National Day holiday. Super super super SUPER hot and lots of crowds from China.
Food - They search all bags for drinks/food at the entrance. Food at the park is not so bad, quite a lot of options and not too expensive. You can get a BIG plate of charsiew rice+complimentary hot drink for S$10. We are also the kind that eat all the time and it wasn’t so bad.
My son also prefers Ocean Park but he had fun in Disneyland. -

Also avoid the golden week of China hols - 1st October on; and CNY of course!Film, try your very best to avoid August - our National Day holiday. Super super super SUPER hot and lots of crowds from China.

thanks so much for all your suggestions, you guys have been so helpful.
i'm thinking of going some time in march (since dh has to clear leave by q1)... i just hope my foot will be fine by then, as i'm still recovering from a fracture. had thought of going last month, crutches and all, but dh thought i was nuts and vetoed it on the spot
will definitely take my daughter to ocean park now. i didn't think it'd be worth the trip. and must must avoid china holidays and sgp national day.
i was also thinking of going to venetian macau... but maybe ocean park will be better... what do you think? -
flim:
flim, don't know how old your kid(s) are but there's not much in macau for a young child (I'm assuming you have no problems taking them out of school coz Q1 term hols very short only) unless you wanna keep indoors and look at the sights. Apparently there's a good promo for venetian - like HKD 1699 or something.
