I think the tariff rate of hdb flats and pte properties are different too? Does anyone know if condo and landed properties are charged different tariff?

think tariff in sg for all the same… only in other countries there is a differentiation.

Mine was $50 to $80 before we had a maid, $80 to $150 after we have a maid, thanks to her ceaseless washing and more washing! Our water usage is usually above the national average!! The weather has also been getting warmer so that's more aircond, and sometimes 2 airconds a night! I suppose the aircond might be older, too? Used to set it to 28 degrees... now 27 still sweating

when i first got married and was staying in 4-rm flat, bill was i think $50-80. When govt gave concession/rebate, sometimes got left-over to be carried over to next month… we were hardly home then, afterwork went to my parents’ place for dinner, and only did laundry and watched bit tv before bed.


now there’s a huge difference as i’ve moved to a larger place with kids and parents, and the gas + electricity usage is very high, plus water as well. bill is $250-320, and we don’t on the aircon too much except when it’s hot, like lately…

What happens when we set the airocn at 27-28 deg? Does it necessarily mean lower charges?

I have a friend who turn on one aircon every night. He said that there is a jump in electricity charges when the aircon is set at 25 deg vs 24deg (the jump is about $35).

Atrecord, how is your water heater system like? Those storage tank type or the instant water heater kind?

I reckon my storage water heater is eating up much of the electricity charges we pay each month. That tv too... (we used to have a 29\" tv but now we are having a 42\").

How about the washer? Top load or front load?

Does front load consume more electricity than top load because the cycle is longer? I know that front load consume less water but how about electricity?

What goes up don’t come down. This applies to PUB bills.

My PUB bill usually around $90-100, but during the period when I was on maternity leave, the bill went up to about $120-$150 as I on the aircon during the day. But after I went back from maternity, the bill never came down.

My bill is rather high as well. Usually in the $300+. We have the aircon turned on every night in 3 bedrooms. We cook daily and have a garden full of plants to water. So needless to say, gas and water consumption is way above average too. On top of that, I bake rather frequently so that contributes to the electricity bills.


We used to have a dryer but I got rid of that when it broke down. My maid has been complaining about clothes not drying well in rainy seasons but I refuse to get another dryer as she will use the dryer everyday even when I told her not to. Once I got rid of the dryer, saw that the electricity consumption went down.

Ours are very high compared to what most are paying, based on what I found out from this forum sometime last year. Sad to say, while the amount has come down, it is still quite out of the range.


Have now decided to install a fan in every room and hopefully things will be better next year... although I doubt. :moneyflies:
