no offense, but it is difficult to be really really fair…but if they want to fair, then all the RC, clan/church affliation, PV needs to go as well out to level the playing field. Then after the phase 1A, perform balloting based on distance…find that the PV/RC/clan/church has been abused where parent do "Free" labour…and it is conflicting the call of Gov to ask all people to go to work, if all go to work, who can volunteer?

Phase 2B of P1 registration not government-linked: Indranee Rajah
SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for Education Indranee Rajah said the priority system for children going through Primary One registration is not linked to the government, but based on an \"objective view\" of community service.
Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Ms Indranee explained Phase 2B of the P1 Registration Framework is open to children whose parents are endorsed as \"active community leaders\".
She was responding to questions from Non-Constituency MP Lina Chiam, who asked for the scrapping of the priority scheme for community leaders which she claims to be linked with the government.
Ms Indranee said only community leaders who are serving in the four grassroots committees -- the Residents' Committee, Neighbourhood Committee, Citizen's Consultative Committee, Community Club Management Committee and the Community Development Council -- get priority.
She said: \"We recognise that there are many different social groups, which serve the community, but when we look at priority, we look at priority for active community leaders. And in defining active community leaders, we define eligibility based on an objective view of community service.
\"Grassroots leaders (GRLs) support the People's Association in its mission of community building, in support of the government of the day. That is why at the current time, only active GRLs from the four grassroots organisations and district counsellors from the Community Development Councils are eligible for consideration under Phase 2B and eligibility is based on contribution and not along party lines.\"
In addition, Phase 2B is also open to the children of parent volunteers and endorsed members of churches or clans that are directly connected with the school.
Ms Indranee added the commitment and support from these various stakeholders help to build stronger bonds between the school and the community.
She further clarified that not all who are involved in grassroots associations get priority.
Those who do not get priority include the People's Association's Youth Executive Committees and Women's Executive Committees.

It seems to me... the reality is that the schools will not bother to change the policy. Although schools are government funded, they still need extra $upport $ometimes, and alumni is usually their biggest contributor. And then we see who are the ones that work in our so called \"government\"? The PAP folks (elite), and the civil servants (elite).... most probably thinking along the lines of elite breads elite... so rant if we must, but please keep expectations minimal.
yup. alumni won't be removed as it would not be in schools' interest as they need alumni support and they take care of their own. -
i just wondering if rebranding all schools in singapore under one name \"Singapore School\" will help to make all the same, all wear the same uniform and sing all the same song and have no distinction which is align with the goal that \"all schools are good school\" then no competition..hmmm....that all people have the same playing field and if it so, then are we practising \"communism\" ideology?

dont think so. human nature and by word of mouth, some schools would be \"better\" than others. singapore school 12 would be better than singapore school 15 etc.
anyway, rebranding all schools is very drastic and steals history and social memory of schools and alumni. -

i agree with you, that is also a message i am trying to bring across. it is not possible to have a fair playing field in the society system we are in. all schools have their own uniqueness but it is human nature to go for the best (that explains the long queue at the wan tan mee...) hence cause the choke up and people start thinking of removing the alumni system to level the playing field....alumni system to some people is a congregation of the elitism club? alumni members being a shortcut to entry as don't have to provide any service yet children can go in...hmmmlchunleo:
