      Need help…(beside using guess n check)

      A group of pupils and their teachers visited the zoo. The school paid $168 for their lunch. Each adult ouch cost $4 while each child inch cost $3.

      If there were 8 times as many pupils as teachers, how many pupils went on the trip?

        (8 units x $3) + (1 unit x $4) -> $168
        24 units + 4 units -> $168
        1 unit -> $168 / 28 = 6

        No of pupils (8 units) -> 8 x 6 = 48

            Siti had 6 times as many apples as David at first. After Siti had given 450 apples to David, they had an equal number of apples.

            (a) Find the number of apples David had at first.
            (b) David gave away some apples and had half the number of apples Siti had. How many apples did David give away.

                Hi,

                Pls help me with this question (from CHIJ ST Nicholas SA One 2012). Thanks in advance.

                A number of pupils were told to stand in a straight line to welcome the guest of honour at a concert. The distance between every 2 pupils was 1m. The pupil in the middle was 9m away from the third pupil in the line. How many pupils wre there in the line altogether?

                  Hi,

                  Just like to share, ruler is a very good tool to illustrate/count the number of peoples/items separate by an equal distance. Especially for primary when the number involved is usually not huge.

                      Hi,

                      (a) Fabian has a monthly salary of $3860
                      http://i39.tinypic.com/rhr58k.jpg\">

                      (b) He spend 7/20 of his salary, so he should left with (1 – 7/20) = 13/20 of his salary as remainder.
                      http://i43.tinypic.com/onxg9.jpg\">

                      (c) 0.6 is equivalent to 6/10 or 3/5
                      He gave 3/5 of the remainder to his mother, so he is left with (1 – 3/5) = 2/5 of the remainder as saving.
                      http://i43.tinypic.com/de19fq.jpg\">
                      Saving = 2/5 x 2509
                      = 1003 3/5
                      ~ $1004 (to the nearest $)

                      Regards
