      mummy so kiasu:
      janet_lee88:

this boy had a tough time since birth...cleft lip and palate operations at 2 and 8 months respectively. i really pity him.

My dragon boy also had a tough time since birth too. He had eye open when he was 2 years old to implant a len & to remove a cataract in his right eye. He was hospitalized when he was in P3 for Pneumonia (lung infection) & he had chest infection in P5. He had fever every month when he was P3 & P4. Even till now, he will fall sick if someone in his class is sick.

To Janet and mummy so kiasu

Oops....my case may be a little unusual.

DS received the dental letter in P5 and when I called the various clinics (NUH, IDH, JMC), it seems most places would cost about the same and eventually depends on the complexity. So we just head on to the nearest place - JMC (Jurong Medical Centre, opposite Jurong Point) for logistics convenience.

The lady orthodontist we had was a visiting doctor to JMC - Ms Tang. As DS could not start braces yet, we only did some interim 'retainer' to help push one of his protruding front tooth down. A few months later, JMC changed management and the dental clinic was closed down.....so I followed the Orthodontist to TTSH (Tan Tock Seng). DS was already scheduled to start his extraction and bonding end of this month. However, I discovered JMC Dental has reopened recently & I have just terminated with TTSH and transferred back to JMC.....so that easier for both kids to go home in future.

Ms Tang PM - TTSH. Was quoted ~$4.4K package previously, but DS case became a little more complicated, extra charges expected. Nice young lady, very approachable and flexible.

JMC - Dr Janee. Do not know her, just asked the clinic nurse to recommend.
Do not know the package yet as our first consultation is next week. But over the phone enquiry, apparently the package starts from $4+K upwards, subject to the orthodontist decision after first appt.

Think we OT in this thread....let's move to dental if wanna discuss more 🙂

Thanks BeContented. My DS has not receive any letter, referrals or recommendations from e school dental clinic (yet), does that mean we should wait, or visit an orthodontist ourselves for opinion? DS definitely need braces, just that we are not sure if he is ready and where we can get a better orthodontist with reasonable charges. Is there anymore dentist service in Sec schools?

When dd1 was in P3, our regular dentist pointed out that she might need braces as her upper row of teeth is overcrowded. We consulted an orthodontist in Paragon and at that time some of her baby teeth were still intact and therefore we were told to visit her annually to monitor the growth. Last year, we decided to consult another orthodontist at Novena (recommended by one of the mummies here). The orthodontist took an xray to make and proposed us to wait till dd1 completes her PSLE. He said though dd1 had completely dropped her baby teeth, P5/P6 could be stressful year for both parents n kids, and having braces at that point of time might add unnecessary stress.

We heeded his advice and decided to delay the treatment. But recently dd1 complained abt having jaw pain…I may have to schedule another dental appointment during sch holiday if the pain persists. I find that his charges are much cheaper than the one in Paragon. His consultation was $25 whereas Paragon charged me $50 (no discount even for repeat consultation or referral from our family dentist). Another reason for switching is logistics, it is easier for us to go Novena, especially braces require 1-2 years treatment; having an orthodontist nearer to home and school is easier.
I remember the school dentist who treated her in P4 told us that very likely she will get referral letter from the school in P5/P6, where girls tend to mature and have more defined jawline.

I have not received the letter from the school dental..supposedly to be this year. There is not subsidized rate for braces treatment even with school referral letter. And I heard that it is quite difficult to schedule appointments. Hence, we decided to go for pte orthodontist instead.

Wow, the cost is expensive. :yikes:

Has it always been that expensive? :skeptical:

How much for subsidized rate (students) via referral?

Check out the rates here http://www.moh.gov.sg/content/moh_web/home/costs_and_financing/Dental_Fee_Info/Orthodontics_Braces.html

I dont think there is any subsidized rate for students, even with school referral. But I understand that payment is progressive, spread across over 1-2 years depending on the treatment. The fee will exclude x-rays and consultation; but will include the retainer.

Hi bebe, can share your orthodontist contact from Novena?
                        TIA!
