Thanks all for the input on how to revise for June.I now have an a clearer idea of how to plan & what to focus instead of giving chunks to exhaust DS before the PSLE! Suggestions on doing only selective challenging questions are also valuable because I feel that DS should focus on the 2-4 marks questions rather than spending too much time on solving 5 marks. That area is not his forte. :thankyou:

dd FT kept telling us to focus on basics. He said usually for PSLE paper, there are only 1-2 very tough questions. The rest are really back to basics. Don't because of those few marks question and lose the entire big picture.

He always tells us to focus on basics. Make sure they kids score full marks in section A so passing is never a issue. The next is points accumulation to get better grades in paper 2.

Since my definition of 'peak' is different from John Yeo's, I'd just like to make a few comments. From my experience, the 'peak' that I describe is by definition fairly short-lived, maybe a couple of weeks in duration. No-one can maintain that sort of high level of readiness for long periods - that's called a plateau! Sportmen, armies etc all build towards a short period of high intensity of performance. So if you child peaks now, I think it's best to let there be a 'valley' or his energy and motivation may peter out. You can aim to have a lower peak around the prelims, but aim for the major peak around the PSLE when it really counts.

By the way, I know some parents relax the kids nearing PSLE so they won't burn out. Based on your experience, how many days before PSLE should we stop them from studying and just relax?

I never had to stop my daughter from studying! She was always fairly relaxed, so we didn't really change much up to the exams. She was playing wii with some younger kids the weekend before the PSLE! The day before an exam, I will ask her to have a quick look through her notes etc during the day, then have a relaxed evening and an early night.

Hi, my son result from P1 to P4 has been very good and he was top 15-20 position in the school. (without tuition). This year he got all C for CA1 and SA1 (last few position in the class). He is very sad and disappointed.

I was shocked when he asked me to send him to tuition centre and mention to me that all his classmate attended tuition. What should I do now?

Any recommendation for tuition centre around sembawang area.

I think standards in school are getting harder. Alot of my friends' kids are also facing the same problem.

If you don't want to jump into tuition straight away, why don't you try to analyze what his weaknesses are and whether you can help him at home? His teachers should be able to tell you. It could be that the way he has been studying in the earlier years is not suited to the questions in P5. You can also ask him what it is about tuition that he thinks will improve his grades, and whether it's really necessary. How will he (and you) feel if tuition doesn't help?

P3 DS just told me only 4 of his classmates got Maths Band 1 for this SA1! One got 3/100!I am like :yikes: So you say..is it hard?

I think 4 classmates getting band one is still something optimistic. My dd’s class, she said her teacher told the class only 5 passed. You say leh?
