How to save electricity?

instant water heater don't use too much electricity but water tank heater is horrifying. So we usually turn on the heater 10-15 min before use and switch it off immediately after use.

I pay 34 for gas too, usually last about 24-27 days. My oven is on electricity not gas.

GM & peapot, I use City Gas cook everyday (include soup) & my gas bill is around $21.27 never exceed $30 a month. Not sure if it's cheaper as I never use others before.[/quote]

I think instant heater is alot more energy saving than water tank heater but the water using instant heater seems not as hot as the tank type, do u feel the same too?

Depends on which brand you use. My old one from Sim Siang Choon was not very hot. My current Alpha instant heater is already very hot even at 3/4 of the turn. Water from storage tanks are too hot and is dangerous if kids use the shower on their own. So I will still buy instant heaters no matter what. My mom, who used to use storage heaters, was also convinced by me to change to instant heaters when she renovated her home. Apart from energy savings, she hated that the storage heaters all started leaking after 5-7 years causing her false ceiling to have patches.

True. but I guess for SG weather no need storage type.

For instant heater, the water is flowing continuously, there is a limit how much \"heating\" the water is subjected to before they flow out of the heater. It is not practical to have a XXXXL heater inside a heater..

But for storage heater, it's different. The water are stored inside. As long as heat is supplied, the temperature will continue to raise. So it is possible to heat the water by 10, 20, or even 30, 40°C.

That is why, instant heater is never practical in winter countries. The incoming water at 5°C, add 10°C to it, still only 15°C, not warm enough.

True. but I guess for SG weather no need storage type.

To cut down on gas usage, does the type of cookware matter? as well as the stove condition?


MIL stove burner is not ok, some of the caps are chipped and I notice the flames are not even. She does not know that the flame should sit under the pot. Many of her pots hv burnt marks at the sides.

I use piped gas, most of my cookware are WMF s/s and I use residual heat to cook through the food.

Wow! Flower and cherrygal that's amazing! Do u cook lunch also and weekends? How come mine last only 27days. Do u gals always cook soup? My maid cook soup 1 hour everyday. Actually I think city gas is cheap.

Yes I cook on weekends too. I usually cook my soup for 2-3 hrs on stove. And I cook breakfast & lunch too but not everyday. My gas is thru pipe not tank.

I believed the type of cookware does matter. If you use pressure cooker or thermal pot can cut the usage by quite a lot especially for stew & soup.

Probably no need to be so hot but I hv found the temp from instant heater not as consistent as storage tank, sometimes hot sometimes lukewarm n sometimes quite cold.
