I think it's a good start.3Boys:
But some cap on alumni phase is clearly in order.
Simple suggestion:
After P1, remaining places divided P2A 33.3%, P2B 33.3%, P2C 33.3%.
Unutilised P2A places (if any) divided equally between P2B and P2C like it is now.
A child of an alumni who is also a PV/clan or church member/community leader can have 3 bites of the cherry.
But I still say it's tuition that makes the difference. -

The policies are already for those with alumni ties. Switch the situation around and you will see a lot more letters from those alumni demanding for priority.
I believe the number of parents against it >> the number of parents who are used to it.3Boys:
We all just need to understand that this is an unnatural and unsustainable state of affairs and needs to be fixed at the root of the problem (uncontrolled alumni priority admissions). Unfortunately too many parents have become used to it.
btw, we see a lot of letters to the ST or other forum like CNA etc who are against alumni priority.. seems like very few letters that are for it..? -

We should not forget that the masses are made of individuals, many of whom do value the \"I want my kids to wear the same school uniform as me\". And institutions value that too.Personal Reasons like \"I want my kids to wear the same school uniform as me\" just have ZERO value in debates that are related to shaping national policies that affect the masses.
Someone like their kids to enter the same university as them. So their kids should be entitled to priority? Don't forget, these graduates played a part in putting the universities on the world map too.
We should separate the issue of the value of alumni to schools from the issue of blanket priority for alumni. I contend that there is value for schools to continue receiving children of alumni. But I do not agree with the blanket priority given to alumni. -

So, exam results > heredity priority?limlim:

But universities have exam results and admissions tests for selection. Have P1 admission exams? :yikes:
By the same token, why can't practical consideration (distance etc) > heredity priority? -

If they are FOR it.. And they GET it.. Still need to write letters meh...[/quote]They can start their letter like
I believe the number of parents against it >> the number of parents who are used to it.limlim:

\"I refer to XX's letter on removing alumni priority......, I feel that............................................\" -

I agree that some \"recognition for alumni\" is acceptable.

hence, I suggestion balloting with alumni getting the most number of slips giving them unfair advantage over others.. If 3 slips not enough, make it 4 slips.. -
Phase 2C:
His ah heng may not be working in MOE worr..

Or how abour after Phase 1, limit P2A to a max of 60% of total intake. If somehow take up for Phase 1 is already 60% or more, then P2A, 2B & 2C get equal share of the remaining seats.
Simple suggestion:
After P1, remaining places divided P2A 33.3%, P2B 33.3%, P2C 33.3%.
Unutilised P2A places (if any) divided equally between P2B and P2C like it is now.

By allowing P2A to go up to 60% (after Phase 1) instead of 2A having equal share with P2B & 2C is to be inline with the current policy which reflects contributions from alumni are valued more than volunteers at 2B.
ps. all my children already in Primary school.

With the declining birthrate, what is the chances of p2A taking up all the places in those schools? :scratchhead:
