P1 MATHS ENRICHMENT CTR

Thx TiggerTigerTiggi. But parents up there, do u think it is necessary for a P1 student to go for Abacus or Maths Enrichment ? Some told me P1 maths is still manageable so can leave it out, abacus can help to stimulate their brain faster, is that true ? Wat u guys think ?

My DS is currently in K2 and with MPM since last year. Wondering if I should continue to let him stay on in MPM beyond P1 level. I am also concerned that my DS is still very weak in his addition and subtraction. Any suggestions to help?

My DS is in K2 and currently with MPM. Wondering if MPM really caters beyond P1 level cos I hardly see students doing P2 or P2 levels and beyond. I also have concerned with my DS as he is still not strong in number bond as well as addition/subtraction. Any comments/suggestions?

My boy is with MPM math too and now he is in p2. MPM built his math foundation strong and he learnt more than what he does in school. The questions on the worksheet really drill him well and allow him to apply the the concept of math.

My understanding is MPM math covers syllabus uptill P6, my child is still with MPM now she is P4. I heard the material used last time was not good, but now has changed. I stil see benefits for my child to attend.

My 2 cents opinion. I would discourage kids to do MPM from P2 and onwards. If you look at the syllabus and the type of questions that is now tested, it requires heuristic methodologies to solve, especially the higher order questions. After all, MPM is not a local programme and is not designed for the Singapore school syllabus.

Certainly MPM will help, so is any local math tuition centre. And I can confidently say that the questions your child will be doing in any local tuition centre would certainly beat MPM in terms of relevancy to the Singapore math syllabus.

Agree. For P1 and P2, better to get a centre that incorporates fun in learning but yet delivers the methododology and concepts well in the Singapore context. Try to get a centre with ex-school teachers or school teachers who know the singapore syllabus well.

Agree three MPM is alright for preschool, but not in sync with MOE Pr Sch syllabus. It is an imported methodology that shares oblique resemblance to our local syllabus. Best to go to centre that is opened by ex-MOE math teachers and manned by current teachers.
