      Phase 2C:
Let's take a look at the 2012 cumulative take up % after Phases 1 and 2A of the below popular primary schools ( Source : Kiasuparents.com - Singapore P1 registration School Balloting History)

      Rulang Primary - 93%
      Henry Park Primary - 91%
      Red Swastika - 88%
      Ai Tong Primary - 87%
      Nan Hua Primary - 87%
      Nanyang Primary - 87%
      ACS (Primary) - 85%
      Catholic High - 83%
CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' - 83%
Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary - 82%
Nice to know that in the top 10 most popular schools, more than 86% of places (approx. 2394 out of 2760) go to those with guanxi - whether via their parents or siblings.

But let's look on the bright side, popular does not mean academic excellence. If we look at the top 10 primary schools by academic ranking (as per Kiasuparents), it's not so bad:

      Nanyang - 87% (of total 390 places)
      Raffles Girls - 70% (270)
      Rosyth - 71% (300)
      Nan Hua - 87% (240)
      Tao Nan - 71% (360)
      St Hilda's - 69% (270)
      Pei Hwa Presbyterian - 82% (300)
      Henry Park - 92% (300)
      Rulang - 93% (270)
      Catholic High - 84% (240)

It works out to only more than 80% (approx 2358 out of 2940).

And if we include the next 10 primary schools by academic ranking:

      ACS (Primary) - 85% (240)
      MGS - 73% (210)
      Ai Tong - 87% (330)
      Bukit Panjang Primary - 67% (270)
      Red Swastika - 88% (240)
      Maha Bodhi - 74% (330)
      Pei Chun - 78% (360)
      Nan Chiau - 61% (300)
      Chongfu - 58% (300)
      Kong Hwa - 69% (270)

It drops to a mere 77% (approx 4462 out of 5790).

Guess it's not what you know, what you can do or even who you know. It all boils down to who you are related to. 🤷

I have to take my hat off for some of you here who are indeed very resourceful. What impresses me most is the way some of you interpret the statistics. It leads to a different insight indeed. Clever!

          Pirate and Phase 2C,

          :goodpost:

Wonder if Mr Heng has any justifications for such trends....or he will classify this as a mere \"exceptions\"

Got. Don't worry, all schools are good schools.

              More smokescreens?

What is the justification for preserving BLANKET alumni priority admissions?

              None.

With cumulative take up rate of 93% (Rulang) and 91% (Henry Park) after phase 2A, going forward, there will be balotting even in phase 2A. No need phases 2B and 2C!

                Rulang : 2012 - 93%, 2011 - 85%, 2010 - 70%
                Henry Park: 2012 - 91%, 2011 - 80 %, 2010 - 67%

šŸ˜‚ That will be very interesting.

Then alumni of popular schools will have no choice but to move nearer to the school too.

I am quite curious, what contributes the the increasing take up rate for P1 and 2A? Parents kiasu-ness has increased so much over the past 2 years? P1 should be quite stable because that is linked to existing students whose numbers do not change much over the years right? And phase 2a is mostly locals right? So what has change over the past 2-3 years?

I suspect that most alumni would not move near their alma maters judging from the crazy prices of flats and houses. Take me for example: I live in the north. Our alma maters are in the east and central. If our kids don't get in via phase 2A, we will go for the popular neighborhood school within 1km at phase 2C. So while removing or limiting vacancies at phase 2A2 frees up vacancies and benefits the richer residents living near our alma maters, it has repercussion on phase 2C - of other schools. Perhaps by then, another group of parents would kbkb that those with alma maters should not compete with those without at phase 2C.

Maybe the first batch output from these schools started to breed few year back and the brood have come to age..
