Cadmium Rice in China

Pollution is like 2nd hand smoke, there’s no boundaries. The pollution in China will not stay within China, pple in other countries will suffer the effects one way or another. International bodies, really need to do something. But I’m not even confident anyone can persuade China or that the gvt can resolve the situation.

Agree, quite difficult to track the supply chain for processed food. We do what we can by making an informed choice ie minimizing MIC. We can make a difference. It's not always about lowest price but value. Our choice ensures that producers in other parts of the world need not compete against price, and survive.hquek:
I try to avoid made in china food as much as possible. Pls read carefully, a lot of the familiar brands are now MIC. Even then, it's not foolproof becos companies may just import raw materials from we know where. haiz....
Yup, so no guarantee if buy food made/processed in ctries like Australia, US, etc.
I was surprised the Heinz beans, is made in China. I was reading the label for something and saw it  -

Find substitute ? Heehee
That's why I've been avoiding chicken in a biscuit although sometimes severely tempted.SAHM_TAN:

they r very clever in packaging too. Notice most of the things sell in Daiso, though the words printed in Japanese words, but r made in china.
Yes,no way to avoid, coz the raw material could be from China. They might even use china labour to make the products/food. For e.g. Levi jeans labeled as made in USA but they use labour from china. -

I tend to believe, It's not China pple trying to \"disguise\" the products, but rather profit oriented Jap companies open factories in China to cut cost.they r very clever in packaging too. Notice most of the things sell in Daiso, though the words printed in Japanese words, but r made in china.
And since it is Jap company, naturally they put japanese words. -
Some things I found that were made in China but masked behind non-Chinese brands…
Loreal liquid foundation (surprised that it was made in China)
Garnier products (was using a lot but just realised all made in China)
Lee Kum Kee sauces (HK brand but made in China)
Cheerios cereal (Used to be made in USA but now in China so I stopped buying)
Nabisco Chicken in a biscuit (I also avoided this but it’s super addictive)
Want Want baby rice biscuits (thought Taiwanese brand, but made in Guangzhou)
Very important to read labels nowadays… -
Oreo wafer (found out today that it is made in China)
Skippy peanut butter (the normal ones are made in China. The 25% reduced fat is still made in USA)
A lot of cosmetics are made in China. It is hard to find lipstick/eye-shadows, etc that are not made in China. -
I think it’s important to distinguish between ‘made in China’ products which are manufactured by foreign investors and those made by China companies. Usually, the foreign investors have higher standards and better QC, so the products are generally safer. For those products manufactured under foreign investors which have been found to have questionable ingredients, it’s usually because they have been introduced somewhere along the distribution chain by unscrupulous middlemen, so those which are exported are generally safer as they don’t enter the China distribution chain as much. You notice I use ‘generally’ and ‘usually’ a lot because nothing is 100% safe, even when manufactured in the US or Europe. Also, trust Singapore’s AVA - they are usually strict and careful. I’ve lived in China 10 yrs, and it’s not as bad as the international media and scaremongers make out.

If they have good processes and QC, they will also conduct their own checks and use their own purification processes before using the raw materials.
