Just wanted to share that this book is indeed quite good. I started using it for my DS in P2 when I was hunting for compre book--not many compre assessment books have graphic stimulus. So that in itself was a big plus.
What i like about the book is it's organised in units, and every unit will have everything ie graphic stimulus, compre close, compre MCQ and compre open-ended. And there're marks so DS can 'see' his progress (or lack thereof). Easy for working mummies cos I just tell him to do one unit and can rest assured he got to practise every component -
That title by Rosemary Allen was my son’s ‘companion’ for several years. I bought it every year for 4 years.
Daughter is weak in cloze…I bought ‘cloze practice’ by Marshall cavendish and another one by Casco…‘how to…’
For son, he is facing a new english syllabus at Sec 1. …there are not many titles in Popular. -

Indeed. I noticed only a tiny collection of Sec school assessment books. Wonder where can we browse a bigger collection

Think that can be DIY. Pick sentences fr storybks and scrambled. Have a mixed of proper and common nouns. -
Somehow I feel that the approach to mastering languages is different from Maths. (more) Practice doesn’t make perfect, unlike Maths.
Doing more cloze or compre exercises don’t seem to help much.
Or am I the only one with this observation? -

It does help...especially for cloze. Surprisingly, my son is good in comprehension cloze but very careless for grammar cloze with past perfect tense and past participle.Somehow I feel that the approach to mastering languages is different from Maths.
