Hi buds,
Hiya spring! Hope you and your family have recovered from that awful
bug that's been dampening some new year spirit. Glad to see you back!spring:
Happy it worked out for ya!I am currently playing e mystery bag game to reinforce on recognition of letter shapes n name. My dd enjoy e game v much! Thank you so much!

spring:
Now, you're making me excited too! :lol:Just now, i went to Page One at vivocity and found some letterland products. I was so excited!
spring:
Wow, your collecting fetish has begun. Pockets, beware!I bought a alphabet song cd, handwriting song cd & alphabet frieze. Wanted to buy ABC board book but they do not carry it.
Those are good buys, spring. My ABC book of all places i
managed to get it from Popular. I was soooo surprised 2
see it in Popular. If you're really keen, they do sell it on
ebay and you might just get them directly from Francis.
Or you may wish to consider finding out if you can just
ask any Tumble Tots operator for their kind assistance
to get one for you, since they offer Letterland phonics
in all their centres. I got mine over 35 bucks.spring:

If you think she won't be too

you may go right ahead. Using this method, she should
be able to distinguish both simultaneously and be able
to effectively tell the difference. Character recognition

letters and sounds. The characters makes it fun to

Yes it should be.I tink its for learning e letter sounds rite?

I dun think they have any CDs teaching just letter names songs.spring:

as both my girls are in different sessions. Meaning one goes, one is home.
I promise i will try my best to put them up soonest. Many apologies for the

Hi buds hubs,
Im sure u r a lucky guy to hav buds as ur wife.....
Definitely a \"xian qi liang mu\" -
Introducing Letterland Phonics
Some children would have learnt traditional alphabet names.
While showing children the plain sides of the Letterland flash
cards/code cards for Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben... (etc) ... you
can explain how you will be talking about these letters like
this.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1cWxVi
\"We may be used to calling these letters by the names aayy,
bee and cee... which are called letter names.\"
Then, show children the picture sides of the same cards.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1cWsW0
\"In Letterland, the Letterland people and animals you see on
these cards don't call each other by their letter names. They
call each other by their Letterland names instead like.....
Clever Cat, Dippy Duck, (etc)..\"
The reason for stressing the Letterland character names at
this early stage of Letterland Phonics introduction is to ensure
that the correct sound will be on the child's lips the moment he
or she starts to say any Letterland character's name.
You may come up with your own presentation of the letters as
the scheme progresses. Also use your own judgment to decide
how many of the stages to go through for each letter, depending
on the interest of your children. The story telling style of teaching
Letterland will strengthen communication between you and your
children.
Introducing Clever Cat
Introduce Clever Cat by first showing the children the pictogram
side of the card.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1cWsW0
\"Children, let me share with you something about this letter....
She is called Clever Cat and she lives in Letterland. Most of the
time, you cannot see all of Clever Cat's face in her letter because
she likes to keep it a secret that she's actually there. Luckily on this
card, you can see her face... on one side.\"
Next, show the plain letter side of the pictogram and back again.
If you have the wall frieze, you may ask the children to stand up
and touch Clever Cat.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1cWxVi
Clever Cat Activity
\"Now, it's your turn to draw your very own picture of Clever Cat's
face, just like this one. Add her ears and her eyes and don't forget
her whiskers too so that yours will look like the Clever Cat on this
card.\"
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1cXshA
Pass around plain c-shapes for the children to picture code with
their colouring materials like crayon or magic pens. For children
who are not independent writers, you may get them to trace on
pencil marks that you have made on their papers too.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVZMx3r
Engage children in talk about Clever Cat, her nose, her ears, (etc).
They can also share about their own pet cat or any pets in general.
Clever Cat's Letter Shape
Lead up to writing the letter 'c'.
\"Did you know that some animals love it, when you stroke them?
Clever Cat likes you to stroke her too but as long as you do it very
smoothly and carefully.\"
If you own the handwriting song... go to the track to play Clever
Cat's tune... which would go like this...
\"Curve round Clever Cat's face to begin...\"
\"Then, gently tickle her under her chin...\"
Slowly trace the pictogram side of Clever Cat and then repeat the
verse (with or without the music playing).. Singing repetition is like
chanting, which makes learning fun and easy to remember.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Ts1Shdfi
Then, stroke the plain side of the card too.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1ddLj0
Repeat the song again if you wish to, or if you see that the children like it.
You may practice good visual memory training exercise by tracing
the letter in the air with full arm movement while the track verse
is repeated.
Clever Cat's Craft Activity : Puppet / Face Mask
Materials
1. Drawing block
2. Crayons
3. Scissors
4. Pencil
5. Marker
6. Rubber bands / Chopsticks
7. Old newspapers for colouring base
8. Paper plate (optional)
>Get a paper plate to begin. I have run out of paper
plates, so here i am using a plastic plate that i have.
Cut out the interior base of the plate with pen knife
or scissors. The hole is for the child to place his/her
face.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx1zb2oA
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVZR7p0
>Using a pencil, draw the outline for Clever Cat's face.
Include her ears and the sides of her furry face. When
you finish, darken the lines with marker and invite the
children to colour.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx1zctbJ
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx1zd8B9
>With the spare scrap drawing paper, draw the outline
of a hollow letter 'c'. Colour inside the letter. If they are
old enough to work independently with scissors, then
provide child sized scissors for them to cut out the
outline of the letter 'c' that they have finished
colouring.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Ts1S1Hti
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx1z9CBr
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1d0W8J
>Stick the chopstick below the finished Clever Cat's face
for easy handling... like a puppet. And if you like, the
paper plate or drawing of Clever Cat's face can also be
used/donned like a mask with two rubber bands at the
side to place behind the ears.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVZTdBA
>Place your face over the mask/puppet and pretend to
be Clever Cat. Ask the children to pick up the letter 'c'
to put on Clever Cat's face to tell them that it is the
letter shape for Clever Cat.
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVZUkrA
Clever Cat's Sound
Ask the children to make sounds of a cat ie. mewing or
purring... then explain to them...
\"Clever Cat is not like other cats. She makes a different
yet special sound instead. She does not even say it loudly.
She whispers it.... like this... /c/... /c/... /c/... Can you try to
whisper Clever Cat's sound?\"
If you have purchased the Alphabet Songs CD, you may
play the Clever Cat track to help children pronounce her
letter sound correctly. The song would go like this...
\"Clever Cat says /c/ in words...\"
\"/c/ in words, /c/ in words...\"
\"Clever Cat says /c/ in words...\"
\"And cuddles close to me..\"
\"She also makes another sound..\"
\"Another sound, another sound...\"
\"She also makes another sound..\"
\"Just you wait and see..\"
Cup your hand around your mouth to know if you're
saying it correctly... you should feel that warm breath
on your hand when saying the sound... do not add /uh/
to the /c/ sound which makes it \"cuh\". Just a short, curt
whisper... /c/.
Extension Activity
This game idea is from DD1. It's a matching game to play
with your children. Easy to prepare & can use scrap paper.
She use scrap drawing block to roll up into thin sticks for
the holder and she cut out three letter 'c' shapes and 2
other different consonants ) ... coloured them ... pasted
the thin sticks and voila! Ready for game time!
Show children the pictogram and ask them to pick out
Clever Cat's letter shape. It can just be coloured hollow
letters shapes for the children to pick up with their fingers
or add a stick to make them stick letters so that the child
can hold it up for you like a puppet on a stick.

She very kun-niang... very xiao-jie... so i thought boot camp with Tumble

is great with fine motor skills at a very young age. I suppose the early intro
to Montessori's soft skills played a big part with that and she has very gd
attention span. She can be oblivious to everything else, like people talking
in the background, or someone watching tv and stuff like that..... but she
wud just place all her attention on me when i'm teaching her.

her pace. In Montessori we believe in teaching children the right concepts
at the right time. Cos it's when they're most interested to learn about a
certain subject, it's the best time for them to learn and they will pick up a
lot in that span of time. It's termed as the Sensitive Periods. During this
period, sometimes it takes the children almost the least effort to learn as
that is the period when they absorb that topic/area best. So, i'm thinking
your DDs sensitive period is NOW! So... jia-you mummy spring! :celebrate:spring:

I made it my first priority today; to put up the brief guide on introducing
Letterland for you in my post above. Hope it provides clearer picture for

Hi buds, I am currently playing e mystery bag game to reinforce on recognition of letter shapes n name. My dd enjoy e game v much! Thank you so much!
Since you are geared on Letterland's introduction to Phonics, i will dig up

stuff for you and others who are also interested in Letterland.
Hope the brief presentation above is of some help to you to start off with
your quest to teach your DD on your own. -

In fact, she likes picking small lil things like those v small dried leave scattered on the playground. :stupid: But i make sure she washes her hands when she reach home. Hmm.. do you mind sharing what are e things u did with your dds on their fine motor skills? Ya.... i understand e laundry part....
My hubby is trained to do alot of things. Last time he dunno how to bathe or feed my dd, but now he is trained all rounded!
But theres stil room for improvement, like his bedtime story telling, tink my dd find it boring when he read, sometimes read halfway ask mummy to read instead... but i insist my hubby to continue with it.

Ya... u really had given me alot of work to do...
Btw, for letterland presentation, must i show her e letter C first also or u r just showing an example? -
spring:
Most prob i will order e flashcard with tumble tots soon.
Okie!
spring:
Both of mine could even see ants jogging! :laugh:In fact, she likes picking small lil things like those v small dried leave scattered on the playground. :stupid: But i make sure she washes her hands when she reach home.
They can also pick up dust that i must've missed sweeping up..
But that's when they were younger and have great attention to
small/tiny stuff... especially those that move. Luckily, they decided
they were smart enough not to put the moving ones in their mouth
like what they did with the non-moving ones. Hahaa! :lol:spring:
Have ya seen my http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3607&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=chopsticks&start=0 sharing?Hmm.. do you mind sharing what are e things u did with your dds on their fine motor skills?
I definitely have A LOT MORE! :!:
But i suppose gotta save that for another thread for me to start on.
spring:
Normal for her age yes. Mine totally refused and beyond coaxing.N also, i find tat my dd is nt very interested in tracing letters, is it normal for her age or is it bcos her fine motor skill is nt gd enuff? To update, shes 27mths. But i tried finger tracing on flashcard, she quite like it.
But i just show them how i did anyway... even if they don't do at
least they see how we do it. Eventually both did it anyhow, just
on their own when they felt they were ready.
spring:
Not sure about that darling.. Cause the time my DD1 was with TumbleOh... for e branch tat my dd is in, they only has either once a week or daily. But it shd be uniform across all centrs rite? :? I wish they has this kind of shedule which my dd can slowly progress up.
Tots, still old management. Now i heard new management...
Even all the Tumble Tots centres now renovated to like very corporate
kinda image. I personally preferred it carpeted as compared to the neu
laminated flooring..spring:

But theres stil room for improvement, like his bedtime story telling, tink my dd find it boring when he read, sometimes read halfway ask mummy to read instead... but i insist my hubby to continue with it.
He's a doll really.. to help out with the stuff at the house.

I made it my first priority today; to put up the brief guide on introducing Letterland for you in my post above. Hope it provides clearer picture for you on how to work with your DD in the days to come with the early stages in the scheme. Paiseh, took so long to update you on that. Well, more work for you to do now, spring! Jia-you!

I won't be sure if your DD's centre follows the Letterland presentationBtw, for letterland presentation, must i show her e letter C first also or u r just showing an example?
order or do they do it in alphabetical order.. so i think better to get the
actual line up that the centre is using so you and your DD can be on top
of pace and revision in line with them.
But just like Montessori, the Letterland Phonics has their own set of single
letter sounds cluster they use in their programme as well.. and /c/ starts it
if i do remember it correctly..
