My girl joined the choir as CCA in P1 last year and she loved it. They performed during the P1 orientation in Nov last year... Would be continuing in P2 this yearDear all,
Wishing to seek your advice on CCA.
Anyone of you with girls participating in CCA during P1 and P2 ?
If any of your girls have joined swimming as a CCA, pls kindly share your experience, e.g. venue, is it conducted by an external trainer, the quality etc.
Since I have converted to part time working arrangement starting this year, thought of signing up my P1 girl for at least 1 CCA, 1st shortlist will be swimming, choir or dance.
Thank you
Rgds,
Ming

Oh btw my daughter is selected to be a stage leader this year and she is kind of both excited yet scared of it lol... She is stage-shy yet she cant help telling all her uncles and aunties about it hee...
And yeah there was a spelling list given out on 1st day already, but mine is P2 this year...
And her P1 buddy is bigger sized than her, just as I expected

Andaiz: ya man.. tx :).. juz remembered bt swimmg is compulsory.. yes yes.. that is fun !
CCA matters (swimg): Dependg how serious you want d child to be involved. Leisure or Competitive swimming. For leisure, can join the school CCA. If u hv intention to let her be in competitive swimming, then u shd enrol her both external lessons (like yesterday :)) & enrol her in school swimg as well. I tell u more in a bit.
Your child needs to be good to be selected in the sch team. So with double dose of trainings (in and outside sch) it's worth the effort. It is all abt \"units of training\". The more trg u get, the better. Get her to participate in external competitions with her pte coach. Naturally school coach will see her potential and ultimately will put her in the sch swimg team. I am sure u dont want to lose out with others who has advances to intermidiate levels.
Many of my frens doters in swimmg (IJ,KC & etc) gotten into MGS via DSA in swimmg. So def swimmg or individual sports are beneficial in long term. They need to have at least 3 yrs track record. So it's impt to be participatg in zonal & national competitions.

Think your referring to Mdm Eng Lee Na. DD's teacher is Miss Eng Lik Boon.
Funz, is this Ms Eng L N? If so, she's good! Fueled the love for Chinese in my gals' class last year - 98% of them taking HCL this year.Funz:
Ok take back the no spelling list thing. DD just came back with her spelling list for English.
The teacher attached a timetable in her handbook. And just as I suspected, Miss Eng is her chinese teacher only not for both English and chinese.
Just to confirm, they do not have any English Textbook right?

OK 3rd day in school and DD came home with 2 items which were given to her by her friends. One was nicely wrapped so I guess it was meant as a gift and according to DD a few other girls from her class got the gift as well. But the other one was obviously a used purse and DD keeps saying that her friend wants to give it to her. Problem is does the girlโs parents know that she is giving away her purse? And best of all, DD has no idea what the girlโs name is.
Am asking DD to return the purse to the girl in case she is not suppose to be giving it away. -

When in doubt, dont accept

Thanks to all of you for your kind CCA advice
Swimming - definitely not looking at competitive swimming. Just that my girl likes swimming since she started her basic lesson in Oct 09. Would like her to continue if possible.
Choir - my girl likes humming to music, so this is one of my consideration too.
btw, for lower primary girls participating in CCA, do you all let your girls buy lunch from the canteen after the CCA ? will they do where to go after the lunch at canteen before starting their actual pm lesson ? or do you all stay throughout the CCA duration ? what kind of arrangement is more prevalent ?
btw, my girl still has not got her spelling list yet..... :? -
mwchua: yup they shd take lunch after CCA. CCA will start much later after the gals are all settled. I'd think they will be familiar by then.

Spelling practice is today for my dd: garden, rose, caterpillar, home, outside, happy, birthday, red, dog, bird
Dictation: I see a rose in the garden
Prob her's starts next wk.

For P1, what are the typical days they will have their spelling and ting-xie tests ? Does it vary from class to class depending on teachers ?
Firming up my part time working arrangement and tries to take into account ddโs school schedule, CCA etc.
Thanks.

This forum is really useful. Thanks all for contributing.
When do we get to sign up for CCAs? My daughterโs a songbird, sheโll probably love choir too.
