Is it true that students there who do well in mid year exams need not

take the end of the year exam?
(ie the SA1 and SA2 exam)- sorry but I don’t know what they call in HCI and how many times they have exam in year 1

Well, VitoRelax, it all depends on whether yr child is interested in the program. For me, my boy express his interest, so I just let him try since lessons are conducted in sch.

Hi SI-6628

HCI is one of the centres offering the Malay Special Programme. There is an application form in the folder given out on 23/12/09. Though it says to return completed form by 30/12/09, there is no harm calling the admin office to check if you may enrol your son now.

ORIENTATION 4 to 6 Jan 2010


Any HCI parents care to share their sons' experience for the past few days? I believe mine enjoyed himself greatly. Each evening, he would update us of the happenings in the day - how the seniors made the juniors practise cheers to \"perfect\" and throats were sore before releasing them for lunch. Some seniors were very nice, prepare lozenges for them. And DS said canteen food is cheap and chicken pie yummy. He had it for two days and wanted to buy some for us to try. Came home with wet shoes on 2 of the 3 days because of wet field and water bombs which they threw at one another. They also went through CCA trials and shortlisting

DS and his friends were apprehensive about orientation on Day 1.
But it turned out an enjoyable experience for him.
The orientation was run by a hierarchy of seniors - OT, advisers, OS, councillors etc..
His group's mentors made them some cheesecake on the first day and also gave them lozenges on the 3rd day to soothe the throats from all that screaming and shouting.
When I heard these, I was quite touched cos' he understood that his student mentors paid these out of their own pockets.
He was in Group 9 - your son didn't happen to be in the same group, did he?
DS ate at the canteen the 1st day but found that the cafe near the swimming pool serves better food where he subsequently ate.
The group bonded pretty fast in 3 days and the seniors were quite sentimental at the end of it.

The senior did that as a team for the students under them, as the teachers only gave one instruction : take care of them. And they bonded well. I guess that is the kind of Hwa Chong spirit

This coming Friday is a break for S1 students. School starts on 11th Jan.
Ah, so your son is in Isparks - this is the consortium for SBGEP in HCI. Your son was from GEP in primary school?

S1 students are grouped in 4 consortiums - Aphelion, Isparks, Ortus ans Pro-Ed.
My DS is in Aphelion.
Except for Isparks which is the consortium for GEP and some other students, I don't know how they are selected for the other 3 consortiums.
Anyone knows the criteria?

Are u a parent or HCI student?
Ya the bonding and HCI spirit that he felt left a lump in my throat
when he related it to me.
He came back around 8.30 pm on the 2nd day,
was tired out and went to bed early.
But he said his seniors had to stay till past 11 pm to debrief and
prepare for the final day.
Kudos to all these young student leaders.

I understand from MOE's letter on 3rd Language that the selected students have to register themselves at MOELC on 30th Dec '09
failing which his/her place will be given to those next on the waitlist.
HCI runs the MSP on its campus.
Why don't you contact MOE and HCI - if there is still available places, why not?

Hi Way2go, my DS was in Group 9 and they won the most prestigeous award cos the group contributed the most during the Orientation(SOO). His team buddy also made biscuits for them and have personal message for each and every one of the S1 pupils on the biscuits. I thought the team buddy really made a lot of efforts to contriubute to the group. Kudos to the Team Buddy.
