if u wanna to re-live those good old days, u shd go to the Sloane Court @ balmoral Rd...place looks like it has never changed for at least 1/2 a decade!!

Problem is we have no space to keep too many such low-rise buildings...every space either clear for high rise or highways or flyovers..

Oh yes, I'm old enough to remember that A&W restaurant.

Dad used to drive us there and park outside the restaurant.
The waitress will come over to take our order, then she will bring the food over on a tray which will be propped on the car door (with the window rolled down). We will then have the food in the car.

Hey yeah! The old style Hainanese steak house![/quote]It's still there after all these years? Another throwback for the Hainanese Steak House is Shashilik...walk through the door and it's as if you've stepped into a scene of Back to the Future!

DH and I went there last September to re-live our pak toh days...so deja vu!

Better still, go to Pulau Ubin and eat at the coffee shop there.

Oh yes...don't need any ice at all, and the root beer is still icy cold. Get your money's worth with a full glass of root beer. Not like the fast food chain nowadays, filling up the cup 3/4 full of ice before adding coke. :x

You said it all...now I am missing the root beer lots. šŸ˜ž 😢

Heh, I missed this thread :stupid: AND the root beer.
The coney dog was very good too!
I think at a special price of $1 on Tuesday?
My..my... the ice cold root beer served there then
Still  when I think of it.
The bottled A&W root beer nowadays cannot compare
                by a long shot!

Oh it's $1? I cut it by half for my brother... He was the one paying for a long time so I thought it was $0.50, $1 should be correct if you say so. So Tuesday is correct. Yes canned root beer...cannot compare at all!!

another brand of root beer that fixated people like me had to make do with for over a year coz A&W root beer in cans never got here. Sigh!

To be more explicit, the colour on the can is red and gold plus a little brown...PALE in comparison is the right phrase lah! 😐
