wow. that sounds really good. you have gotten yourself a good teacher. I hope she will give ur kids a good grounding too as its really very important.Hi Adoncia,
This lady tutor prepares comprehension passages bcos the present Sec 1 syllabus is going through a revamp and assessment books are not worth getting. I hope she can give my kids a good grounding for at least 1 year.
That tutor who backed out gave me a phobia hiring...how come she can back out without a valid reason? Best part was the night before, she still what's app me to enquire what materials she will get for kids :faint:
I also have a phobia hiring, so i only trust recommendation by my kid's tutors if i ask them. I donno why they back out, but its just not fair to us when we have prepared ourselves for them to come. At least they should have given us a reason. wah... the night before still whatsapp you>??? thats weird. change decision within 24 hours lol. -
Finding a reliable tutor is stressful...bcos we don't know how they teach especially if it is at a centre. At home, at least we can hear and observe.
I coached daughter before I found this present tutor...son in sec 1 could rely on his school teacher in the meantime. However, his teacher doesn't do supplementary lessons...so again I needed to crack my head :frustrated: to find a tutor to coach them.
British Council is reliable but timing is too rigid.
I informed the agency to help me get one who can commit at least 1 year...so no no to students waiting for results or going overseas.
There was this agency who told me her tutors only want those staying near MRT :slapshead: :faint: -

I think convenience plays a big part for them. some of them have so many students that they need to be accessible to transportation.Finding a reliable tutor is stressful...bcos we don't know how they teach especially if it is at a centre. At home, at least we can hear and observe.

I hope parents understand why I do not want to respond to PMs asking for my kids’ tutors.

when we give other parents our tutor’s number and they managed to get them and let the teacher teach, there are 2 possibilities.
1) kiddo did very well and good recommendation, hooray!
2) kiddo no improvement or deproving, blame me for giving them a lousy recommendation.
Not all tutors fit all students, and i cant expect that the tutor i have on hand fits everyone. I am only recommending because it works for my two DS. -
i have recommended son’s math & chinese tutors…math tutor is consistent and professional…she focuses on primary school math while her partner teaches sec school math on weekends.
not all tutors suit kids and vice versa. if/when i do give parents the tutors’ contact, i take a risk. of course i do hope their kids do well too. -
Actually parents who take pp’s recommendations blindly should not blame others if it does not turn out well. it is very kind of one to share contacts that work. Agree that not all tutors will fit everyone and one may experience a wundertutor that doesn’t work for others. I hope bonafide parents won’t be deterred from posting reviews of tutors/places they try before.
Will reiterate what has been shared before, on the other hand, parents reading such posts should also be aware there are some tutors masquerading as parents. I ‘found’ one in the past…talk until like heaven got, earth don’t have. End up when I googled that phone number, this ‘wundertutor’ was also property agent and what not…I didn’t go further. So far she has not resurfaced for sometime.
We have to do our own due diligence.
