Hi, PHPPS has 2 relay teams this year for the inter primary swim meet!! D-boys & C-girls. The teams will be doing both 5x50m freestyle relay & medley relay. My ds1 is in the C-boys team.

Does anyone know why Pei Hwa does not have swimming as a CCA? Is anyone keen to lobby the school to start one? I know a number of kids who train competitively but receive no encouragement from the school although it’s a great sport. Maybe then we can have more relay teams instead of just 2 🙂

There is no teacher in charge of swimming. It is not a formal CCA in Pei Hwa. If your kid wants to swim, then just submit details and his timings to HOD PE, Tan Leng Khoon. If he/she qualifies based on timing submitted, the child can swim. However, because there isn’t anyone formally in charge and can train the relay team properly, organizing each swimmer according to his or her strength, I suspect the kids are just left to swim haphazardly. I don’t even think the kids even have an opportunity to swim together before the competition! Correct me if I am wrong, parents with kids on the relay team. To me, this is just setting up the kids to fail. And they always get inexperienced, blur teachers/even trainees to be at the swimming complex with these poor kids. It was just terrible. The cloud behind the silver lining is that some kids actually had proper training with outside clubs so some of them can actually make it with decent rankings (very very few). In reality, if you don’t make it to finals, these can’t be used for future DSA, so some parents may be forgiven if they think the exercise is a waste of time…

When would PH shift? Not next year rite? At least wait for NYPS to shift out first, otherwise Toh Tuck Rd will clot like an artery of an overweight man.
