...Is P1 too early to start on competitive swimming? My boy is very active and has loads of energy, he is also very mischievous, so I am considering starting him on some activity where he will learn to be disciplined.

I can assure you that P1 is not too early to start competitive swimming. Most kids that are serious starts training from 3-4 years old, and by 5, they would be able to swim 30 lengths of the pool easily within an hour using any stroke. I know that as a fact 🙂

Do take note your kid is require to be able to swim all the four strokes if he wants to joint the competitive.
So if he take another year to learn the back and fly, by p2 he should be able to joint!
From your post your boy is hyper active with discipline issue which you have to deal with first, if not very difficult for the coach.
Honestly I would not want to take kids with disciplinary issue as I don't want to risk losing the rest over this kid.
Alternatively you can hv him in private class

11 days of exciting SNAG are over…records are broken, new ones are written, congrats to all of them, you hard works had paid off.

Tomorrow starts the 2 days of National Stroke Camp at different locations.
David Lim will be heading the backstroke and the butterfly stroke camp.
I will be looking forward to assist him with few other selected coaches.
Rest well swimmers and see you tomorrow!

Yes, he's been very very active from young. We've been struggling with his disciplinary issue for as long as I can remember (my other kids do not have this issue, though his usually guai guai younger brother is showing signs of following his mischievous ways). I've tried all methods (counsel, negotiate, warn, scold, scream, cane), only the harsher methods work for him :stompfeet:

In all the classes I put him in; swim class, MPM, Sunday school, all his teachers complain that he's very mischievous and likes to play a fool 😢 :gloomy:

So I'm considering signing him up for a sport (given his active personality) where he will learn to be disciplined. I'm also considering taekwondo for him.

Thanks again for your advice, Jeff!

Hi Wolfgirl, thanks for your advice. I think I shall do just that. Are the sizes indeed smaller than the regular Arena/Speedo sizes, based on your experience? Inter-schools start tomorrow. Good luck to everyone participating!
