I feeling v sad ah... The kid at my first school Toapayoh got abused.

I can't help it but to think the kid might be special needs..

If our child can't go mainstream child care where can they go when we parents need to work ? No money for maid n so on :((

Yes, special needs w maid, however mild the SN, is definitely more dangerous when maid doesn't kn how to handle the child and is v stressed up herself, regardless whether alone or not.
My boy got pinched/slapped by my previous maid whenever he throws a tantrum and she couldn't handle. And they were not even alone...I hv elders at home! And I wasn't even in the know until much much later when there was a major fight betw maid and elders at home, then people at home started to tell me how they chance upon the maid pinching my boy! And I wonder abt the other times that the maid has done it to my boy and no one has seen it!

I didn't manage to catch the show. Do you mind sharing the details? On where the spectrum he is at now - Mild, moderate or severe? How old is he now? When was he being diagnose? What intervention did he went for? What is he doing now?

The teen is 16 years old now and he is raised by his mother who is a single parent. Not sure when was he diagnosed as he was living in the US when he was younger until the mother brought him back to Singapore. His mother said that ASD children get to study in the US for free. Hiaz! such initiative will never happen in Singapore. Our government looks at the P&L and will only invest in those that give the best returns. If you are a gifted children, u get scholarship etc, but if you are special needs, you need to pay through your ass. Sorry for this rude comment but just felt very unjustified.

Anyway back to the teen. From what I see, he doesn't seem to be the high functioning type and has sensory issues. His speech too, is not there. He generally answers a simple yes and no or repeats after his mother and has poor eye contact. But he is gifted in his own ways, he can paint very well and is very good with inline skating. His mother modified the therapies and teach him herself and get him to fold clothes, cook and do sewing. The mother looks young and I believe is highly educated.

Now I am very stress getting my son prep for P1. Recently I heard parents talking about their kids in pathlight while waiting for my son's therapy class to end.

Talk about how happy their kids are in PL compared to if they've put them into Mainstream. At least the kids are happy now and how bullying is real in mainstream.

Another parent I spoke to say why I dun put DS into PL. Cos her kid is something like a GDD yet not really GDD. Said if her kid has a proper label and can go PL, she will definitely snap that chance.

Man.. I tell you... It puts me in guilt and worries and wondering if I really make the right choice or not. But no turning back.. Give him a chance in mainstream and see how it goes. I still want to take that leap of faith.

Dear mummies,


For exemption in Chinese, does your child still attend the lesson, does the homework, do spelling? And only exempted from the test and exams?
Or can he choose to sit in during lesson, but he has the option to do the homework or spelling, show n tell?
