Just to share, recently I heard that there is a ceramic knife you can use to cut fruits and the fruits will not discolour. Not sure how true. But I thought that would be good when making fruit salad.

      Hi peapot,

      This is great news :rahrah:

      Thanks for sharing.

      Do you know the brand???

The brand of the knife is Kyocera. It's the same maker as camera. It's been in the market for quite awhile now. It is really a remarkable knife as it kept its sharpness for a long time. The only down side is you have to either buy the diamond sharpening kid which costs $168 during offer or send in the knife to the agent for sharpening at a nominal fee $10 (afew years back, I'm not sure now). It cannot be sharpened by ordinary sharping stone.

It is true that it will not transfer smell from food to food. Of course, you have to wash it before your next cut of food. eg..from garlic to oranges/fruits. It will still discolour except it takes slightly longer time.

It is wise to buy during sales as they come banded with peeler @$98. I bought mine 4 years ago @$99 banded with slicer and peeler at Meidi-ya 2008. I have been using this one and only knife ever since.

Dasalo, how long does it take after cutting fruits to discoloration?

Wonder if we can get this knife in the Great Singapore Sale?

Haha..tough question. I've tried with various brands of apples and the China fuji apples almost never discolour. With the European/Aust brands it does but slight soaking with salt water helps.

GSS is the best time to buy. I suggest you check prices between Robinsons, Isetan and CK Tang. I personally think Isetan gives the best price, nevertheless there might be some exception.

Sorry, I got carried away..did we go OT??

I was a fool during the last Isetan closed door sales as they were offering Avanti Pizza stone for $16+15% (one day). I was there but did not buy it. The next day I was at CK Tangs 12% closed door sale and I bought the same thing for $29.90 less 20%. Silly right? With that, I gather Isetan offers better prices during sale.

Thought of reviving this thread. After all, to stay healthy and be in top form, what best than to eat your veg/fruits raw with vitamins still intact.

Now, my fave dressing for salads is the Japanese sesame sauce with roasted nuts by Mizkan. It is sold in NTUC Jap section. The plastic bottle with the word 金 is unmistakable. Taste really yummy in salads.
