If distance is so important and RV is the preferred school (no balloting), I would just move house if I were you. If moving is not possible, then you need to try Fairfield lor... As for gal, I would not give up MGS.

Do yourself and your children a favor and just enroll in nearest decent pri school. You are one of those classic case alumni...want cheap housing but want rich man school for your kids. many of your kids classmates will be coming to school in luxury cars, live in condo and above housing. How will your children reconcile the environment gap? Can they still relate to where they are growing up? Will 70c coffee be enough or must have Starbucks everytime?

Whats wrong with making the best out of the current regulation and circumstances?

As for the gap, i would say the inferiority complex is more with the adult then the child.

Dear all I’m in quite a pickle and I’m just wondering if any of you experts could comment


I have a dd 2008 and a dragon year son. I’m deciding between registering my dd for SCGS vs hong wen. We had more or less decided on hong wen due to proximity and priority in future for my son but I just found out that this year would see balloting for PV <1km. I rather not see my kids future to chance so I’m relooking at SCGS. In which case ill need to PV at Saint Andrews junior when my DS turn but surely competitive coz dragon year. Or should I just chance it?

An alternative would be to put my girl in SCGS for p1-2 and switch her to HWS at p3 but my girl isn’t really the adaptable sort. Any advise appreciated.

Many are angry over the current situation where popular schools are almost filled to the brim with alumni. Some will say mean things to let off steam...

You have every right to use the priorities as long as the system is still in place. Since your boy only starts school in 2015, that means you will only have to remain in your HDB for another 2-3 years for the Minimum Occupation Period to be over. It's not that long. Plus, P1 is afternoon session at RV so he will still get enough sleep. Since you still have a car, just send him to school for first few years.

Ya, I also find it strange that PoChing seems to be less popular than Gongshang primary. If I were given a chance to choose, I will choose poiching for my ds. I have an ex-colleague whose son graduated there last year. She said poiching’s std is quite high.

Im really happy to know that my ex sch gongshang primary is ranked top 20 schools in Singapore (seriously i find it hard to believe). But i ‘can only see cannot touch’… Haha. It’s really toooooooooo far. I dont want my son (aka Mr Slow) to wake up at 5am each day just to prepare for school.

Interesting! So the alumni priority can help to \"even out\" social distribution as the children of alumni staying in \"cheap\" housing get to attend rich man school, and alumni staying in landed property/ expensive condo can send their kids to schools in HDB heartland.
