      Thanks everyone for their input.

Ya, I also find it strange that PoChing seems to be less popular than Gongshang primary. If I were given a chance to choose, I will choose poiching for my ds. I have an ex-colleague whose son graduated there last year. She said poiching’s std is quite high.

Im really happy to know that my ex sch gongshang primary is ranked top 20 schools in Singapore (seriously i find it hard to believe). But i ‘can only see cannot touch’… Haha. It’s really toooooooooo far. I dont want my son (aka Mr Slow) to wake up at 5am each day just to prepare for school.

        Cherrygal,

Thank you once again. I'm also weighing my options as there's still 1 more yr.
I will do my PV for Fairfield as promised, and see how things go.
        🙂

Chief and veterans out there, pls help me…

          My story:
SG citizen, 2 kids: elder boy, younger girl.
Me: MGS, Hubby: River Valley Pri.
Staying: within 2km of Clementi pri, Pei tong pri, Qi Fa pri and Nan hua pri and Fairfield.
          NH out of qn obviously.
Under phase 2b for Fairfield. I like Fairfield bcos of distance, good character programme, affiliation and mission sch cos I’m Christian.
But looking at the numbers, i’m very worried.

RV: Confirm get in due to hubby’s alma mater, but very faraway. Called up, sch bus will come at 5.30am! I do not think I can commit to sending son to and fro for next 6 yrs as I will have to work.

Also, I was thinking if it’s worth the distance to also send my gal there next time, as I still prefer her to go MGS. But 2 kids in diff schs is very headache.

          Which sch should i choose?
I would definitely prefer RV to the other schs in clementi

Do yourself and your children a favor and just enroll in nearest decent pri school. You are one of those classic case alumni...want cheap housing but want rich man school for your kids. many of your kids classmates will be coming to school in luxury cars, live in condo and above housing. How will your children reconcile the environment gap? Can they still relate to where they are growing up? Will 70c coffee be enough or must have Starbucks everytime?
Interesting! So the alumni priority can help to \"even out\" social distribution as the children of alumni staying in \"cheap\" housing get to attend rich man school, and alumni staying in landed property/ expensive condo can send their kids to schools in HDB heartland.

Actually if one bothered to read carefully, they stay near MGS (prime district, no?) and far from RV (I recall, RV now in Jurong West?).

And, the children honestly have to learn to accept the difference in family income and parent's job. We can't be sheltering them for life ya?
If guided correctly, this may act as a spur for the child to want to do better and provide well for his/her family in future.

Erm I’m sorry all of you have got my intentions abit off.

I like my alma mater and So does my hubby. We enjoy the time we had in sch. The friends made, ccas, teachers and school spirit. It’s hard for me to explain unless one experiences it himself. Esp during sports day, the cheering of different houses, and how we(mgs, acs and acjc) are one big family in spirit.
We want our children to enjoy and experience what we did too.
It’s not about being elite jus because the schools happen to be popular and situated in prime districts.
I had no trouble mingling with the richer gals and neither did they look down on me jus bcos I live in hdb.
At e end of e day, it’s the correct values we parents impart and inculcate. Education is for all and every parent has the right to want their children to be in the ‘better’ school if possible.

I’m so sorry if my post started this whole elitist issue. Let’s end here ok?
Many thanks and apologies as well. No offense intended.
                Cheers

This is why we shouldn't rid the alumni/old boys/old girls priority.
There is a sense of belonging. If there's no priority for my kids to enter my alma mater or my hubby's alma mater and have the same learning experience as we did and enjoyed, then why stay here in SG?

so daddy and mummy goes to that school then the kids should as well? if that is not elitist, i don’t know what is. The "good" schools are forever there to service the well off and the rest be damn? Keep the peasants out kind of thing.

But then again this phrase will not be scrapped, where else will the ministers sent their kids.

                      Hi

I would like to get some advice on the reviews of Ngee Ann Primary School and Pasir Ris Primary School.

My daughter is due for registration for P1 next year. I am an old gal from Ngee Ann Primary School and I know if I register my daughter in Ngee Ann under Phase 2A2, I will get a place. However, I live in Pasir Ris and Pasir Ris Primary School is just next to my block. Putting the distance aside, would anyone be able to give me advice on these two schools, which is better in terms of environment, culture and academic? Of course, the teachers and principal play an important role too.

Would really appreciate for any guidance and advice.

                      Thanks
                      Hui

Can we keep discussion, opinions and gripes on MOE's admission policies to this thread please?
